Chapter 25
by SingingLark
Will Liandra be succesfull at convincing her father?
Yes, but with a condition
Liandra went to the King in the next morning, and found him in terribly good mood. It had been ages she last saw him boast and carouse so much in the morning. It was as if he was twenty or thirty years younger.
"Father...I have a boon to ask" That got his attention, and he motioned her to come closer. "Yes, my child?" He sat her on his lap, something he hadn't done since she was eight.
"I want to be allowed to go to Nocternia with Kendra. I want to see their country...and why they must abandon themselves to their wicked ways. Maybe they are forlorn by most benevolent gods, but Osmar, god of Salvation and Forgiveness, teaches us that even the cruelest villain can be saved" That was when she saw in his hand the ring she had gifted him, and one look at her father's face told the King was well aware of her lies. But he didn't look angry, just disappointed.
"You hurt me much, Li... In truth, I was going to entrust you with the role of Luxian Ambassador, but now I am not sure." His father took a piece of bread, parted it, and gave her the best half.
"I... am sorry papa" It wasn't really appropriate for them to speak like that in public, but majesty awarded them certain privileges. In this case, everyone else simply walked out of the room. "In truth I want to go because that is where I want to be, my heart belongs with Kendra now."
Her father smile weakly at her "My eyes aren't so old as to not notice the obvious. But your papa isn't without his art, Liandra. You may go with her, but you will have only this chance to impose your will over mine. Learn her darkest secret, her most abhorrent shame, her deepest regret and see if your feelings stay the same. If they dont... then you shall marry the prince I chose for you"
She kissed his forehead "I love you papa. And thank you"
How is the trip?
