Hired by a Supervillain

Superpowers.

For the past few decades, the world has been dominated by them. First came the superheroes, eager to help the world and fight injustice. Their reign of goodness brought on an era of unprecedented peace and prosperity. Crime was virtually eliminated. But then came the supervillains. Challenging the new world order, these dissidents are now locked in a never-ending struggle against the forces of good. Where there is money to be made, a supervillain will always show up. The conflict between heroes and villains has become a part of everyday life. For now, the heroes remain on top, but as more super-powered criminals emerge, the balance of power grows ever unstable.

But for a regular 22-year old guy, like Kyle, there are much bigger worries in the world. With every passing day, Kyle finds himself sinker deeper and deeper into debt. College hadn't worked out very well and in the middle of his junior year, he had dropped out. Unemployment seemed unending. No matter how many jobs Kyle applied to, he only ever received a growing number of rejection emails in response. At this rate, he would be unable to pay his rent next month.

**** times call for **** measures. And **** measures meant mindlessly searching across Linkedin. The notorious website was ever the tease to poor Kyle. Before his eyes, were thousands of job opportunities. Yet, it didn't seem to matter. But as Kyle scrolled through the never-ending list of minimum-wage dead-ends, his eyes abruptly paused.

There was no need to read further, this was it. Kyle didn't care if was shoveling shit, for $35/hour he would do anything. Besides, what were the odds he'd even get picked to interview here? Without another thought towards it, Kyle tapped "Easy Apply" and sent his resume off. He resumed applying to other positions and soon, he forgot all about the mystery "Assistant" Job.
