Dragon Raid

BOOOOM!

Something loud crashed somewhere outside the house.

Hiccup and Ash sat up. Ash looked to the ceiling, already switching to "battle ready." Hiccup was a little slower on the uptake, trying to sit up, his hair a mess and still a little euphoric from Ash's lips on him.

"Shit!"

Ash got out of the bed and immediately scrambled to find his clothes, pulling up his pants and boots.

"WOAH," shouted Hiccup before the fur blanket they were under caught his legs, causing him to stumble to the floor.

"Stop messing around Hiccup," said Ash as he strapped his shoulder pads on. "The dragons are back and I'm needed for the fire brigade."

"Little early this time, don't you think?" Asked Hiccup as Ash threw him his green shirt. "Don't they usually wait till sundown and it's..."

He opened the window and realized that the orangish glow was actually dragon fire, the sun having already gone down.

"Oh."

"Come on," said Ash as he grabbed Hiccup's arm and dragged them in a rush. They ran down the stairs, the sound of adults shouting and dragons screeching as chaos ensued outside. "I'm going to try and keep the idiots from wasting all the water."

"The twins have probably dunked each other and at least three different people by now," said Hiccup. Ash didn't laugh.

"As for you," said Ash as he adjusted Hiccup's vest as though he was going to make a speech. "You need to stay in the forge where it's safe."

"And out of the way," said Hiccup.

"Yes. Out of the way. In the forge where you can help make repairs. You think Gobber can do all of that on his own? You were the one who made my axe."

"That? That was nothing."

"It's not nothing. You're a craftsman. Take pride in your craft." Ash put a hand on Hiccup's face. Hiccup wasn't Baldur, but Ash still though that his freckles and dorky expressions were cute. "And I can't do my job and protect you at the same time."

"You don't have to protect me."

Rather than dignify that with a response, Ash gave him a deep kiss. When he broke it off, Ash lugged his axe, which he left beside the front door, hefting it over his shoulder.

"Seriously. Don't die."

And he went off to meet with the others at the trough.
