Chapter 80 by doppledon doppledon

How's the celebration that night?

More fun then you thought it'd be.

By the time the sun started to set you all had cleared out the campsite as Annabel and Rene finished up the dinner. Sitting around the fire you look around to see your three dinos laying next to each other apparently asleep. The area must be fairly safe for them to feel so comfortable so soon, and you're glad they seem to be getting along well enough.

"Dinner's ready" Annabel calls out. You each step in line to grab a plate of food. Annabel and Rene really went all out it seems. There was some type of red meat that seemed to be as well cooked as any steak you'd seen in the old world. Some kind of toasted bread that had some kind of jam on top of it. Then there was a servicing of some kind of boiled green bean. Rounding it off was a small cake that in the old world you would assume was chocolate, but in this world you assumed it was fruity. You chuckle a little bit at yourself and your lack of food knowledge in this world, when you have innate knowledge popping into your head about less common things. Rene of course sets everyone up with their favorite alcohol, and the group sits down to eat, talk, and drink.

"So John" Jane says grabbing your attention "What did you used to do for fun in your other life" she asks.

"There was a lot of stuff really. I enjoyed reading, watching competitive sports, we had all sorts of games we could play, or just listening to music" you reply.

"Oooo I wonder what your music was like" Jane says wistfully.

"Well we had all sorts really. There were lots of different instruments people could use, and we had a way of storing the music on devices that would play the music for you whenever you wanted. Everyone had their own favorite songs and types of music" you explained.

"What was your favorite" Rene asked.

"That's tough to answer as I don't think the terms for the type of music I liked really would translate well. We had a general term for music that was called Rock and Roll. It was generally upbeat and fast paced music. Usually had a rebel against authority type theme to it. I probably listened to that most often. I also listened to concerts where you had a large group of people on a wide array of instruments playing together to make some beautiful music. Music in general just made me feel good so I didn't really discriminate. Heck, I've even listened to someone just signing a song by themselves" you reply. Something you said seemed to make Rene smile.

"What about here, is there much music around" you ask the group.

"Most of it is going to be people just signing songs together, but bigger towns like New Eden probably had a few musicians that hung around. Kind of a shame we didn't have the chance to stick around long enough and go see one" Annabel answers. Just as you're about to say maybe this town would be big enough for that someday something caught all your ear's attention.

"The world keeps turning in front of me

I often wonder what it sees

Wars and love aplenty within

Oh when does my own life begin.

There he is, the champion of my heart

There he is, and we will never be apart.

The world continues turning

Does it see how happy I have been

The world continues turning

My time was far too short, but I know I've been a star

If the world continues turning

Past this life I've lived

Will there be somewhere, and somehow, and someway for me

To see what my world has seen"

You all sit in silence for a moment when Rene finishes singing. It takes you a second to finally grasp how beautiful her voice was, and you can't help but feel a sense of calmness from it.

"Holy shit...Rene, that was" you begin.

"Beautiful" Yvette finishes your sentence for you.

"That was amazing Rene" Jane chimes in.

"You truly have more to offer then you think my love" Annabel states.

"One of my talents the customers could ask me for was to sing for them, and surprisingly quite a few of them did ask for it. I thought the song was fairly fitting considering we're planning on changing the world so to speak" Rene replies to all of you.

"Just the changing the world part applied, or have you found the champion of your heart" Annabel asks teasingly.

"Oooo, or the champions" Jane chips in emphasizing the plural.

"Ok, well it might be partly that...mostly that" Rene replies smiling at Annabel and Jane. "It's just such a strange situation I find myself in. I saw myself growing old at that place, and now here I am singing that song because I wanted to and not because someone told me to" Rene answers.

"I think we all find ourselves still trying to figure out if this is all real or just a very good dream" you chuckle. You see everyone nodding their heads in agreement.

"Do you all want to hear the rest of the song" Rene suddenly asks.

"There's more" Jane asks clearly interested. Rene chuckles and nods her head.

"I think we all very much would love to hear you sing some more" you tell her.

Rene stands up and begins singing the remainder of the song. The song is broken up into four more parts and covers the protagonist having what you assume is happy life for a woman in this world. She gets married, has children, and in general leads a happy life. All while wondering if her life is worthwhile or not. It is a song that makes you feel happy and sad at the same time, and you could probably write an essay on what the song means to you. The rest of the night is full of talking and you all end up snuggled together in the tent. The moment feels so loving and calm that sex doesn't even cross your mind, and finally you all fall asleep feeling content that you've all made it this far together.

What does the next day bring?
