Chapter 32

Did they break her?
A little.
She continued smiling at Jen and Mark while they talked about her like she wasn't there.
"So what's going on with her? Why's she like this?" Mark asked.
Jen had a theory. "I think when we stripped her desire it took her creative spark too. Creativity is born from new ideas and new ideas are internally generated. She's purely reactive now."
As if to underscore the point, the woman chimed in. "That sounds right to me! I don't really want anything anymore so I really only do what y'all say."
"Ugh, let's kill that stupid accent and give her a real name." She smiled brightly at that.
"Ok, Toby, please speak neutral American English. And your name is Lily."
"Lily..." the woman looked thoughtfully at her arms and body. "I like it!"
"So what, she's just a mindless drone?" Mark was sizing her up. She looked innocently at him.
"No, not a drone - just missing creativity and desire. Watch." She walked over to Lily. "Stick out your tongue." Lily did as she said and Jen grabbed it and twisted. Lily jerked back.
"Ow! What the fuck did oo do tat for?" Jen looked apologetic. "Sorry Lily, had to make a point. See, she has negative reactions. She can also draw logical conclusions and retain information. What she doesn't have is the ability to generate novel ideas."
Lily was sitting attentively, not saying a word. Mark turned to her. "What do you think we should do now, Lily?" Lily shrugged. He pulled out a quarter. "Let's try something. Heads or tails?"
The young woman looked confused. "I don't know."
"It's a simple question. Do you choose heads or tails?" She shrugged again. Mark looked at Jen. "So she really can't come up with anything on her own?" Jen nodded.
"Lily, how about heads?"
Her face lit up. "Yeah, heads!"
What to do with Lily?
