Chapter 14 by SG SG

How does the night pass?

Fine, until Jake has a dream.

Sam started with an odd sensation. She checked her phone. She had been staring at the wall for three hours. She didn't fall asleep, or black out. She just wasn't interested in anything.

Another jolt sent a shiver down her spine. We need to get to the cafeteria, she realized.

Sam blinked. What cafeteria? The one they print the newspaper at. If we didn't get there in time they'd definitely run the piece on how we sold our family's land.

She shook her head. What the hell was going on with her? She shot bolt upright as a sudden panic gripped her. How many rooms did this damn cafeteria have? And why was it so dark in here?

She felt a deep despair. They'd never make it in time to stop the press. Once those papers went out, all the grocery chains would refuse to stock our peas.

Sam put her hands to her temples. What was going on? Where was she? She was in... Jake's... house. Jake was sleeping... he was dreaming!

She laughed. This is what secondhand dreams feel like! Just then a wave of relief swept over her. The cicadas had drunk all the ink! She laughed at the misfortune of Mrs. Rosen. That'll teach that old bitch to turn her high school cafeteria into a printing press!

She stumbled towards the bedroom. She needed to wake Jake up, this was getting weird. She only hoped the car wouldn't fall apart on the way to the border. When did Poland start sharing a border with Ontario anyway?

She groaned in frustration. She had had enough of this bullshit. She reached Jake and began to shake him violently.

Does it wake him up?
