Miranda reveals something surprising

“How… how could you…” Miranda said. “This isn’t how things are supposed to be! Jack, I thought we, I thought we had something special!”

Jack gave Miranda a look, but Miranda’s face turned angry. “I did too until you decided to start banging the commanding officer in the engine room,” Jack said.

“You don’t get to say that!” Miranda shouted. “You said you weren’t ready!”

“Oh I’m the bad guy for moving on? Does Shepard know that we’ve been secretly seeing each other for the past 4 years!” Jack shouted.

Miranda froze. She slowly turned to Shepard who looked confused and hurt. But she was looking at Liara. “Did you… did you know about all of this?” Shepard asked.

Liara looked guilty. “I… yes… I did… but I… I didn’t know how to tell you.”

Miranda turned to Shepard. “Wait, Shepard… it’s not…”

“I knew there was sexual tension,” Shepard said. “But you all played it off like it was just some joke! But this entire time you’ve knowingly been seeing each other and making a fool out of me?”

Miranda gulped. “I...I’m sorry… but… I couldn’t… I couldn’t help my feelings for Jack… but I still had feelings for you.”

Shepard shut her eyes. She shook her head and turned as she yanked her drawers open and threw on some clothes as she did a small black box fell out. Shepard’s stomach dropped as she had planned everything for tonight but through all the chaos had forgotten about her plan as the tiny box reminded her of how she felt. “I was… going to ask you to marry me…” Shepard said as tears formed in her eyes, her lip quivering. “But now…”

“Shepard…” Miranda said.

Shepard shook her head as she took off down the stairs, leaving her own apartment past the stream of clothes.
