If what you heard was true then perhaps you should indulge yourself in the world of Digimon. Unlike Pokemon, the Digimon series were never shy about embracing some of the more high rated potential there franchise had. They had several more 'mature' designs for the characters in there games and anime now and then, not to mention the large variety of humanoid digimon they used. Some of them were only barely considered to be human being humanoid at best, but there were some digimon that practically looked like humans in cosplay.
