You delve deeper into the swamp as the light grows dimmer, heralding the arrival of night. It feels like you've been trekking for miles and you're starting to get exhausted. Just as you seriously begin to consider lying down for a nap another howl hits your veins like ice. Nap - bad idea. At least the fear puts a great deal of pep in your step.
Eventually your foot sinks far more than you expected, and you realize you wandered into the middle of a giant mud pit. Again you see the customary maddening three paths leading forward, though you're not sure where a clue could be hiding in this barren, gloopy expanse.
You feel a rumbling, and the mud ahead of you starts to rise. It bulges higher and higher until it begins to shift, taking on the shape of a huge muscular humanoid, nearly twice as tall as yourself, made out of that same mud. Atop its moss-covered shoulders where a neck would be instead emerges three animal skulls: a wolf, a deer, and a crocodile. It leans forward and roars.
This seems bad.
There's no time for thinking, you need to make a decision, NOW.
