Who was that?

"That was Steve," Rebecca explains, getting up from the stool to give you a morning kiss. "He was trying to call your phone but you were sleeping so peacefully I didn't want to wake you. The storm brought down a tree onto their house in the middle of the night. Apparently, there's a huge hole in the roof and half the house is flooded. He and Gemma spent the night in a motel, but are heading back there in an hour or so to survey the damage. I told him we'd come by as soon as possible to help out."

You sigh. There goes any chance of morning sex. And now you're about to see Gemma once again. You and Rebecca get cleaned up and dressed, and drive over to Steven's house. As you pass through the streets, some still flooded with clogged drains, you witness a trail of destruction caused by the storm with multiple trees felled. You count yourselves lucky that your house was spared any damage. As you approach Steve's house, you can already see the carnage from a distance. Almost the entire roof has caved in, and of all the houses you've seen, it's the only one with emergency crews out the front. Steve is out the front, speaking with a firefighter, and presumably Gemma is somewhere safe away from the drizzling rain.

"Hey," says Steve with a weary smile. "Looks pretty bad, but we've been told it's safe enough to go inside to gather some of our things."

"Oh Steve, I'm so sorry," Rebecca says, placing a sympathetic hand on his shoulder.

"It's fine," he replies with a shrug. "The insurers have already come out and told us it'll take a couple of months for repairs, and that it'll all be covered under my plan."

"That's good," smiles Rebecca, "And while you're waiting for the repairs to finish, you and Gemma can come and stay with us, right honey?"
