Chapter 5

Is Gwen able spot Jolyne?
Quite Easily
Gwen watched the crowded streets of New York, trying to make an individual out in such a massive and busy crowd would normally be difficult, but not for the person that Gwendolyn was searching for. It barely took the hero five seconds to find Jolyne, who was crossing the street with several other civilians. Gwen's earlier quip about Jolyne's appearance wasn't overblown; she stood out in the crowd; hell, even some of the people on the crosswalk with her were giving her a strange look. But it wasn't just her appearance that gave her away; it was those injured legs. Gwen watched as the escaped convict walked along the crosswalk; she made it about halfway, and it didn't take much observation to see that she was having difficulties walking normally. Gwen chuckled to herself as she leapt off the edge of the roof and down into the crowded street. "Hey you!" Ghost-Spider called out as she landed, causing several pedestrians to stop in place and look over to the masked hero. Gwen then pointed straight at Jolyne, who had stopped as well, which Gwen found rather strange. Had she given up on escaping? That was a possibility, given that she was in no condition to run away and Gwen had spotted her. "Did you really think you could make a run for it?" the Spider-Woman questioned mockingly.
Jolyne slowly turned around to face the masked vigilante; her face was neutral, not showing any signs of emotion besides contemplation. The stand user could hear people murmuring as they watched the confrontation between her and the hero, some even pulling out their phones to record it. Good grief, all this attention was really bothersome. Jolyne stared directly into the eyes of the woman who had called her out before she began to speak, "Wasn't running." she said as if she were having a casual conversation.
"Right, my bad. Limping! Did you really think you could make a limp for-" Gwen began to quip.
"You honestly think I was trying to get away from you?" The convict interrupted with her own question, though hers was more serious than her opponent's.
"Wha-" Gwendolyn started before getting interrupted again, this time not by Jolyne talking over her but instead because of the asphalt right next to the criminal cracking. Gwen couldn't see it, but Jolyne had summoned 「STONE FREE」and commanded it to stomp onto the street to the right of her. The stomp not only cracked the ground next to her, but also caused a shockwave.
It felt like a localized earthquake had just occurred. Several civilians fell over. Cars on the street had partially lifted off the ground. Gwen herself would have lost balance and fallen over had it not been for her ability to adhere to surfaces. It was at this moment that Gwen realized what Jolyne had meant. She hadn't been crossing the street to make an escape; she had been searching for something just like Gwen had been searching for her. That something being a manhole cover. Gwen hadn't even noticed until it had shot out of the ground due to the shockwave. The cover spun in the air as it flew upward and kept spinning as it started to come back down. But during all this, it still remained to the right of Jolyne, who had a sly look on her face.
When the manhole cover made it back down to around where Jolyne's shoulders were, the Joestar brought out her stand, which swiftly brought back its fist and just as swiftly brought it forward, its knuckles crashing right into the manhole cover, causing them to embed into it before the cover was launched forward. "ORA!" 「STONE FREE」roared.
It sounded like a cannon had just been fired. The sound that the manhole cover made as it flew straight toward Gwen was haunting. Gwen bent backward, the manhole cover just barely making contact with her face as she did. Had it not been for her Spider-Sense warning her in advance, the vigilante doubted that she would've been able to dodge. In the less than half second that it took for Gwen to stand up straight again, the hero fired a web behind her, which made contact with the manhole cover. The web stuck to the dented piece of cast iron, and now it was time for Gwen to retaliate. The superhero tugged her webbing forward as hard as possible. It felt like she was trying to pull a truck forward. Gwen let out a grunt as she continued to pull forward, causing small tears to open around the thighs of Ghost-Spider's costume. Eventually, the cover lost all of its original momentum. With one last mighty tug, Gwen launched the manhole cover straight at Jolyne, it ripping right off the webbing as it flew at the stand user.
Jolyne barely batted an eye and she used 「STONE FREE」to swat the cover down, causing it to embed in the street. The manhole cover was now bent out of its disk-like shape as it rested in the asphalt. Though now Gwen had a better understanding of her how Holly or whatever's powers worked. The indentations on the cover matched up with those of someone knuckles and trust her, Gwen could recognize knuckle imprints when she saw them. Her foe had invisible limps or at least that's the current theory she had. Ms. Stacy let out a groan of annoyance, "Great, invisible limps! What's next? Is she going to have a pair of horn hiding under her buns and an second, evil personality?" The hero annoyingly quipped to herself.
The two women were now at a standoff, both waiting for the other to make a move. Pedestrians were screaming and running away from the scene, not daring to even run between the two powered individuals. Gwen's lenses narrowed as her eyes did. Jolyne was stone-faced again, seemingly deep in contemplation. Gwen could only wonder what was going through the girl's head. Jolyne then suddenly dashed toward the manhole as best as her injured legs would allow her. Gwen watched as the stand-user began to descend into the sewers below. Gwen was stuck at an impasse; the sewers might smell bad, but they were probably where Gwen could fight the best. Those narrow tunnels allowed her ability to stick to walls to really shine. Plus, it was easy to trap people in her webs down there. She could just let Miss Invisi-Limbs drop down and fight her in an area where she fought best. On the other hand, Jolyne wanted to go down there. Gwen barely knew her, but from what she could tell, Jolyne was cunning. If Gwen let her drop down, following her may not be an option since it was an obvious trap, plus perhaps she could fight just as well in the sewers as Gwen did. Those invisible limbs were fast, and Gwen was requiring a lot of open space just to avoid them, and getting hit by them in such an enclosed space would probably literally crush her. Gwen had mere milliseconds to make a decision, and whichever one she made would determine the flow of the battle.
Does Gwen let Jolyne drop into the sewers?
