A Hall of Mirrors

You stand in the middle of a hallway that stretches onto infinity. On each side, floor to ceiling length mirrors exist as two infinite rows of doors. Most mirrors are blank, but one is different. You instinctively walk up towards it. As you draw closer, the darkness beyond the mirror is interrupted by several lines of pink light that stretch on infinitely into the distance. Along the trajectory of the light beams, a solitary figure of a woman shrouded in a masked, hooded outfit made of pink strands of... some kind of pink rubbery, luminescent material zooms up to you. She's looking at you, you can tell, even though you can't see her eyes through the pink strands of her mask.

{endif}"Where am I? What is this? Am I dead?" You ask pathetically, when you feel close enough to be heard.

The woman nods. "Yes, you are dead."

"So this is the afterlife?"

"Almost. Unfortunately you didn't quite make the cut for heaven."

"I'm... I'm going to hell?"

"Well, as close to hell as hell exists. You're going to be reincarnated."

"Reincarnated? That's not bad..." You muse.

"I'm afraid it is. You see, only souls with severely unbalanced karma get sent to the Hall of Mirrors. You can think of this as a form of purgatory."

"What have I got to be punished for?!" You demand.

"Your attitude to women, specifically the type of women who you called 'sluts', was unacceptable. And your premature demise meant that you never received sufficient comeuppance for these viewpoints, and the awful way you talked about and treated such people. So now, you are doomed to live their lives, until you have sufficiently learned your lesson."

"Live their lives? The life of a slut?! I think not! I would never be seen dead-"

"But you see, {if Felicity Wingfield == true}Felicity{elseif Stanley Smith == true}Stanley{else}dear{endif}, you are dead. So, in a sense, for once, that idiom is actually as false as can be. For you will be seen dead. In many different skins."

"You're losing me."

"It is best if you remain silent for a moment, and give me a chance to explain what happens next."

You decide it's best to do as she says. You sit tight, and listen.

"Each of these mirrors will take you into a different person's life, in a different dimension. While the laws of physics and human biology will never be too different in these dimensions, modern human society and technology may in some cases have evolved somewhat differently. You'll see what I mean when you enter your first new life. Each of these dimensions, and lives, has been specifically chosen to make you face the reality of life in the shoes of someone who you might have called a 'slut'. Only through empathy can you truly grow and become eligible for the true afterlife.

"As a dead person, in the Hall of Mirrors, you now have the innate ability to escape the life you're living and return here at any time. But by doing so, you reset your progress. For you see, to escape this cycle of reincarnation, you must simply survive in your new shoes for three days. Do that, and your reincarnation will become permanent. You will then live in that person's shoes for the rest of your days, and then when you die in that life, as long as it wasn't by suicide or reckless self-endangerment, you will ascend to heaven, rather than return here.

"But it's not as easy as it seems. Each person and world you may find yourself in, presents unique challenges that will test your willpower, drain your resolve, and challenge your long-held opinions on those you call 'sluts'. If your attitude to life in this new world and scenario, your 'dimension satisfaction' if you will, plummets to dangerously low levels, your mind will pull you back here even if you don't consciously will it to. So, if you encounter too many upsetting things, or your future looks too dire, you'll return to the start of your journey even if you don't mean to. When you return here, you can jump back into the start of this first mirror, or, if available, choose a new one. However this first active mirror here is the only one you can jump into multiple times.

"New mirrors, representing new worlds and new lives to try out, become available the longer this goes on. Specifically, for every full day you spend in a dimension, you earn 'Redemption Progress', and a new mirror will activate. As you earn Redeption Progress, you'll find that the new worlds you unlock are somewhat less and less... troublesome on average. Essentially, the more worlds you visit, and the more time you spend in them, the more slightly nicer opportunities will be presented to you. But, your soul is currently in a state of turmoil, making you very sensitive to change. The events that you go through in these worlds will reshape your personality much faster than normal. So, think carefully about what you allow yourself to do. In any case, whether you do it quickly or after countless explorations of other worlds, one thing is inevitable: Eventually, as you become more accustomed to the unique experiences that await you, you will find a world that you become satisfied that you can live in.

"And trust me, you want that to happen as soon as possible. Because while time resets, and your body resets, each time you return here, your mind does not. And each time you find yourself **** to go through this first mirror here... Well, you'll find out soon enough why you want to minimize the number of times that happens. Tell me, do you believe that hypnotism is real?

"That people can use some weird mind tricks to mind control people or warp their mind? Um no, I'm not an idiot." Your remark.

"You won't feel that way for long." The woman says, and you can almost somehow tell that she is smirking behind her mask.

You scowl. "Try me."

She shrugs. "Ready for your first new life, then?"

"Sure." You say, overconfidently. "My first, and last. I'm not the sort of person who lets destiny decide things for me. I'll take whatever life you give me, and prove that with hard work and determination, anybody can be a dignified, moral, upstanding, successful member of society."

"Glad to hear it." The woman says, just a tiny bit patronizingly. "Just touch the mirror then, and off you pop. Perhaps we'll never see each other again."

Looking at the mirror, as well as seeing yourself, you also see what looks like some sort of therapist or physiologist's office in the background behind you. You shrug, and touch the mirror.
