If someone had asked me this question before this weekend, I would have been 100% certain it was a joke. Now, however, I was almost 100% certain it was dead-serious. Then, one thing lead to another, and before I knew it the weekend had been over and I had been an exhibit in a zoo for the weekend.

And it's true; I had definitely enjoyed it, and that was the reason I'd come back straight after work to see what else the zoo had in store for me. But staying here as a permanent resident was a whole different game.

I had only just bought the condo, and had been mentally preparing to start living a (somewhat) adult life with adult responsibilities like cooking, having a 9-to-5 job, paying the mortgage, etc. Instead, here in the zoo I'd be provided with room and board, and would - presumably - never have to think about things like grocery shopping or cleaning the apartment.

But that wasn't all there was to consider. There was also Stacey, the cute keeper I had only met yesterday. "So, does that mean that you and I will be in the same enclosure 24/7?", I asked just to be sure.

"Y-yes, I suppose so", Stacey said, her eyes looking down to the ground. In her voice I could hear she wasn't entirely sold on the idea yet. I didn't want to press on it any further, but it did sound like she was excited to be with me, but was maybe a little anxious about having to be naked 24/7, in front of other people no less.

"Sure!", Stacey exclaimed. "I also have some things to take care of. And yes, your boss was entirely okay with it. I heard they said that this was such a unique opportunity they fully support it."

"Okay, sounds good", I said somewhat relieved.

As I said that, I saw Stacey turn around, pick up the hat that was still lying around, and exit through the aviary gate. She turned around, closed the gate and locked it. Only to blow me an air kiss, looking like a teenager who's fallen in love for the first time.

"Wait!", I shouted. "I've got things to take care of at home! Can't you let me out so I can go to my place to take care of things?"

"That's a good question, Bridget. I was instructed to ask you about becoming a permanent resident, but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to let you out. I'll have to ask my supervisor. There's procedures and such for this, and even though you're a very special exhibit, I'm not sure if I can just ignore the rules in this case. I don't want to get in trouble", Stacey said with a somewhat apologizing tone. Slowly turning around, walking away from the aviary, walking away from me.

While she was saying that I walked towards the edge of the aviary, my fingers prying through the wire mesh that formed the barrier between Stacey and me. I looked a bit dumbfounded. I had gotten this great proposal and now wanted to get out of here asap to get things in order. But instead, I was locked in this cage. All the patience I had had the past couple of days and being fully comfortable with not knowing what was next was now gone. I just needed to go home...
