Jake goes back for a shoe

"Who is that?" said Abbie, standing up.

Jake retreated a step or two back from Abbie. He sighed briefly, reluctantly accepting that they couldn't just ignore the noise. "I don't know. But if this was a horror movie, we would either pursue the noise or hide from it, either of which would probably lead to us being killed."

Abbie smirked. "Clearly I'm ready to play the scared naked girl."

"Life goals," said Jake. "Being the scared naked girl when whoever was yelling finds you." said Jake. "Maybe we should hide?"

"Back in the house?"

Jake was searching for his pants. "Sure. I mean, I assume that whoever it is is just someone from the club who got too drunk and is wandering the woods."

"Probably," agreed Abbie. She had collected her shoes and was working quickly to get them back on. The lower half of her dress had dropped back down to cover her legs, but the top was still hanging loose at her waist. She looked up at Jake who was staring at her. "What?"

"Nothing!" he said, slightly embarrassed at being caught staring. "Just ... as you're wriggling with your shoes, I was mesmerized by, um, the rest of your body."

"Stop it!" said Abbie with a smile. "We have to get out of here!"

Jake had pulled his pants on, and was holding them up with one hand. He found one of his shoes and was looking for the other. "Where's my other shoe?"

"Come on," said Abbie, not paying attention to Jake's shoes or the search for them. "If we circle around, we can get inside again without running into the loud drunk person."

Jake saw his other shoe. "Wait!" As he took a step back toward the bench under which his shoe had fallen, Abbie disappeared around the side of the house. Jake froze in his tracks as he heard a voice in front of him.

"Hey ..." said the voice. "Do I know you?"

Holding his unbuckled and unbelted pants against his body, Jake looked forward. "I'm Jake." He looked around, mildly concerned that Abbie had disappeared.

"I'm Kei. I think I might sit here for a bit, if that's okay with you."
