Chapter 131 by zankoo zankoo

What's next?

watching Rick and a new woman

Jake and Abbie sat side by side. There was room at their table should anyone else want to join them, but for now, it was just the pair of them. From this particular spot, they were somewhat shielded from view from most of the lawn, but there was one other table about fifteen feet away that, like theirs, was partially secluded.

As they ate, they saw a man and woman walk through the lawn, look around, and choose that semi-secluded table.

"They look familiar. Have we met them?" asked Abbie.

"The guy is Rick, I think. One of the groomsmen. I talked with him earlier. I don't know the girl."

Abbie shook her head. "No, I guess I don't either."

They watched Rick and the new woman scope out the lawn as if checking to see what else was around. They didn't seem to notice Jake and Abbie, so maybe from the other table, they were more obscured from view. But Jake and Abbie could still see the other couple, at least enough to continue their people-watching.

"You'll have to tell me what you know about Rick," said Abbie. "He's kind of cute."

Jake smiled at Abbie, and then looked back toward Rick. "He's a dentist. I think he went to college with Phil, maybe frat brothers."

"He's must be a good dentist. He's got nice teeth," commented Abbie.

Jake snorted. "That just means he has a good dentist. Doesn't mean he is one."

"Good point." Abbie squinted to examine a detail. "He's got a wedding ring on. And the woman he's with does not."

Jake nodded. "He said something about a wife ... but I think she's not here. So who's that woman?"

Just then, another pair of people walked by. They saw Rick's table and stopped briefly to offer a greeting. Jake and Abbie could hear a little of the conversation.

"I can't make out everything they're saying," said Abbie. "But I think she just introduced herself as Taylor."

"Taylor?"

"Yeah," said Abbie. "And Staci said she had a few more bridesmaids who weren't here yet. I think Taylor was one of them. So maybe that's her?"

The strolling couple had disappeared now, and Rick and Taylor settled into their table together. It was only then that Jake noticed something different between his table and Rick's.

"They don't have any food."

Abbie peeked over. "Interesting ... they don't. So they're just out here to ... sit?"

Jake shrugged. "Maybe?"

"Or," Abbie said with a raised eyebrow.

"Or?"

Abbie smirked at Jake. "You know what I'm going to say."

Jake sighed and chuckled. "You think they're out here to mess around, don't you?"

"Don't you?" said Abbie. "I mean, don't you hope so? Wouldn't that be exciting?"

Jake laughed. "Sure, I guess it would. I don't have much invested in either of them"

"Neither do I! But isn't it more fun to people-watch if you imagine them doing something sexy together?"

Jake nodded. "You're right. It totally is." He watched them a bit longer. "And I swear to god, I don't think I'm making this up, but Rick's got one hand under the table and another one on it."

Abbie, knowing exactly what Jake was implying, said, "Oh, I'm sure I don't know what you mean."

Jake shot her a quick look. "You don't know what I mean? Do you need me to be more explicit in my descriptions?"

Abbie smiled broadly. "That's precisely what I need."

What's next?

More fun
