Chapter 9 by bsnick

Answer the door?

They're too insistent to give you time to cover up

The doorbell rings again, and you turn left toward the door, uncertain what to do. The panes of glass to either side of the door are frosted, but over the years it's worn away in a number of places to complete transparency.

"Uh, coming!" you call out, and giggle a little. You turn toward the staircase, certain that you see a face at one of the transparent holes in the glass, and decide to get the door as is. Part of your decision is the thumping on the door.

"Hold your horses!" you yell, peering out the peephole, only to see darkness until the person pulls back. You've already unlocked the door and started pulling the door when you realize who it is, a mental 'oh crap' going through you.

Why 'oh crap'?
