He’ll clear the office room

“I’ll clear the office room,” Graeber says. “I’ll grab that sub-machine gun too.”

“Alone?!” Lukas exclaims. “You’re insane!”

“I’ll go with you,” Emil offers.

“No, no! Keep me covered. I’m running back to you guys if there's someone else in there. Just cover my return, got it?”

Emil shoulders his rifle. “We’ll cover you then.”

Graeber keeps his rifle shouldered as he advances. He pokes the first guy a few times before peering further down the hallway where it turned. There are several bodies there but no open threats. He checks the doorway and sees the guy Emil killed. Pieces of flesh and bone litter the floor around in gore. He pokes around the office and sees a fourth, and he almost shoots them but hesitates when he studies the figure curled in a corner.

“Oh, Scheiße…”

It’s the girl from the village. He regards the guy with half his face gone and the other that got speared by two bullets, one of which was from his rifle. She was in an officer's uniform this time. It was all dark green khaki with a red ribbon pinned to the side. Beside her was a radio with wires hanging out and the speakers lost in all ports.

Apparently, she doesn’t recognize Graeber because she tries to beg for mercy in broken German.

He points his gun at her and tells the girl to shut up.

“Find anything?!” Emil says, looking ready to charge in.

Graeber looks at the girl and considers what words to say…
