Consequences

Loud banging accompanies the morning birdsong as William's landlord yells through the door, "Mr. Latour! Rent's already three days late! It's time to pay up if you don't want an eviction notice!"

William had enough to pay, if only just enough, but classes were due to start in only a couple of weeks and he'd yet to pay tuition. There wouldn't be enough for both. So he needed to make a choice. School or housing... unless he could convince Mr. Clark to give him an extension or something. Maybe he would be up for a trade of some kind.
