Home during summer break

Just before she was to start her final year in college, Candace was spending the summer with her family in Iowa. They lived in a somewhat secluded suburb. Their nearest neighbor was half a mile away. It was much more rual compared to the way she lived in the dorms. It was much quieter. And things tended to move at their own pace. She wasn't swept along in the constant chaotic energy of the city and being a college student.

She had arrived the previous night during a thunderstorm. She had been drenched, but with how late she arrived, she was able to head straight for a shower. She gave her soaked clothes to her mother to place with the washing. Exhausted, she fell asleep on her bed still wearing only the towel.
