Chapter 19
by Friedman
What does Jol decide?
To fight Bravi
"Then kill her." Jol said.
"NO!" Kira looked to Jol as Bravi drove his foot into her knee. He then raised his baton, leaving his side exposed. Jol took the chance to lunge forward and thrust, driving the pneumatic head into Bravi's ribcage. The piston activates, driving a rounded head into Bravi's side, shattering bones and exploding his lung. With a cry of pain, the Colonel fell over, coughing up blood.
Kira shuffled towards a wall before she watched Jol swing at the Colonel's face, the disk-like guard of the baton crashing into the bridge of Bravi's nose. His head slams into the tile below his head, splitting his skull. Jol repeated the strike on the defenseless man, ensuring his demise. Just to be sure, he pried the baton from Bravi's hand and took it as his own.
"Are you hurt?" Jol asked as he checked the baton, finding it had no battery. He loaded in a spare battery he'd taken, cursing that he hadn't taken better armament, or that Cote hadn't given him a proper warning of what was happening.
"N-no... No. What's going on?" Kira asked.
"I don't know, but I need to get you somewhere safe."
"Not around here. Bravi's men are on this level."
"Which elevator would be the safest?"
"The one in the far east."
"Then that's where we're headed."
Jol followed the Princess as he brought up his wrist computer to send out an alert, only to find it had already been sent.
The alert was a moment too late as Corvis stormed out of the elevator, following a stun grenade that had landed in the lobby. He leveled his M430 carbine at the guard behind the desk as they reached for their sidearm. Corvis stroked the trigger, putting a round between the lone guard's eyes. Ismak moved to the left, where he saw a door open. A Royal Guard comes rushing through the door and into the holographic sight of Ismak's carbine. Before the guard could react, rounds ripped through his chest and then his throat, killing him in an instant.
In response, Guardsmen drew their PTB-12/24 pistols as another stun grenade flew through the open door. Ismak led his team through the door and opened fire on the first guard he saw. The rest of the Black Daggers do the same, putting down more guards. Another guard popped out from their hiding spot behind a locker and aimed her pistol at a Black Dagger before stroking the trigger. Her shot strikes true, putting a round through the bridge of the man's nose before she is cut down by gunfire herself.
The Black Daggers leave their man behind. There would be time to mourn later, but right now they needed to keep pushing. The Daggers stack up on the next door as Heren looked to the rear. The assaulters entered the gym, which was vacant, and exactly where they needed to be.
"We're here." Corvis said.
"Cover me." Heren said.
Heren looked at her map before moving towards her destination. There, she threw her backpack off and proceeded to retrieve the demolition charges she had brought along. She placed charge after charge to ensure that the hole would be wide enough. As she prepped the explosives, the **** team waited, wondering how long it would be before the Royal Guard would get into gear and initiate a counter-****.
Ismak found himself watching the door the team had come through. It hadn't even been 5 minutes into their attack and he was already a man down. There wasn't much cover in the gym and none of said cover was optimal. If they got pinned down, they were done for. He kept his sights trained on the nearest entryway, knowing the only thing he could hope to do was keep the enemy at bay as Heren planted her charges.
Eventually, Heren shouted "Fire in the hole."
An explosion rattles the floor as the shaped charge blows a hole. A stun grenade led the charge of the men who flooded into the server room. The first commando found himself blasting two dazed guardsmen as another landed through the hole and into the sights of another guardsman. The two fired at the same time, with the commando being protected by his liquid body armor. The guardsmen didn't fair nearly as well, with bullets tearing his lungs and spine. The rest of the assaulters flood into the room, killing those who remain. Once they were clear, Heren rushed to the nearest computer and got to work as Ismak found himself watching a door once more.
Jol and Kira arrived at the elevator. Jol swiveled his head, hoping to find another guardsman to aide them, but instead found himself waiting for the elevator to arrive. Meanwhile, Kalic found Bravi's body, his grip tightening on his Stinger.
"This is Captain Kalic. Bravi has been killed, and the Princess is missing." He radioed.
"We cannot let her escape. I'm sure we can shut the elevators down, but you'll need to track her down and kill her." Heren replied.
"We're moving."
Kalic moved forward, looking for any signs of the Princess' movement. Chances were that she was heading for an elevator, so he did his best to remember where they were. The bludgeoning injuries Bravi had suffered told Kalic that the Princess' savior did not have any firearms.
Do Kalic and his men find Jol and Kira?
