Along The Corridor

"Right, now we need to measure your height and weigh you" continued Dr. Verma briskly. "The only scales are in the nurses room, so we'll have to go down the corridor to that." "But we'll have to go outside" protested Rob. "Ten out of ten for observation Einstein" replied Verma sarcastically. "There's nobody there as you well know. If you had come at a more convenient hour and not insisted on this late appointment, the nurse would have done it before my examination as part of the standard preliminaries." "But Carol's out there" cried Rob. "Carol is a medically trained professional" countered Dr. Verma. "Medically trained my ass. She was working for me six months ago and not making a very good job of it I might add" Rob exploded. "Well, she obviously needed a more conducive working environment in which to thrive" Dr. Verma affirmed.

To Rob's astonishment, Jackie then took him by the hand. "Don't worry Rob, everything is going to be alright. The sooner we get this done the sooner you can go home" she said patronizingly as she led him to the door. "I'm glad that one of you shows the required maturity, goodness knows what we would have done if Jackie was not here" agreed Dr. Verma with a sly grin at Jackie. Rob was too stunned to even shake himself free of Jackie's grasp.

Carol had been keeping an eagle eye on the door to Dr. Verma's office and was delighted to see it open and for Jackie to lead Rob out.
