When they got home, Alexa went upstairs and pulled out her phone, dialing Devin’s number. Michelle stayed downstairs as Alexa talked. “Hey, Devin. I just wanted to talk to you,” she said. “Maybe we should talk in person.”
“Why what’s going on?” Devin asked.
“I uh…. I think it’d be better if we talked in person,” Alexa said.
“If it’s about us, I get it. Look, Alexa. I just want you to be happy, okay? So, do what makes you happy,” Devin said. “I’ll be okay.”
“You will?” Alexa said. “Oh… I mean…”
“It’s okay… just… tell me who it is? Which guy am I competing with?” Devon asked.
“Um…” Alexa blushed. “She’s not a guy…”
“Ah…” Devin said. “Sorry for the assumption, I just didn’t realize…”
“It’s okay,” Alexa said. “I’m sorry, Devon. But… she’s my best friend… and she makes me feel things no one else ever can…”
“I get it,” Devin said. “Look, just promise me one thing.”
“What is it?” Alexa asked.
“Promise me that you’ll take care of yourself,” Devin said.
“I will,” Alexa said. “And thank you so much for understanding.”
“I’ll see you around,” Devin said.
“Bye,” Alexa said as she hung up her phone.
She collapsed on her bed, laying on her back. She thought about the week that transpired and how crazy it had gotten. Getting on a plane, meeting a complete stranger, and even now dating her best friend… it was amazing.
