Guns were sometimes called the great equalizer. And Tex needed to equalize this situation now, and fast. She drew her gun and pointed it at the roo. She in kind, responded by pulling hers. They stood off, both a hair trigger away from going to the great cattle ranch in the sky. “...Not bad, sheriff. Even after losing everything, you’re still Gold Springs’ fastest hand…”

Tex huffed, a bead of sweat dripping down her face. Roxxie was stopped, and her mount seemed to get the hint too, snorting angrily. “Don’t move, horsey, or Roxxie goes to the morgue instead of jail…”

“You don’t have the heart to kill me, Tex. You always were so soft…” the outlaw glared, gun still trained on her.

“Try it, Roxxie,” was her retort, unwavering in her aim, pointing right at her heart. Tex was sweating bullets. The odds were more even now, but she was still at a disadvantage. Her attention divided between two parties, if either one acted out, she may not be able to respond in kind. There had to be something… anything to break the standoff...
