Chapter 17 by Friedman Friedman

What's next?

Back at the armory

Jol spent the next few hours in the armory, helping to keep the weapons maintained. For the most part, there was little to do, so he spent some spare time studying the procedures of the Royal Guardsmen. Maybe if he showed he was serious about other duties he'd be able to leave the armory behind sooner rather than later. As his shift came to an end, the front door to the armory opened. Jol looked up to Brigader Hote, causing him to immediately give him a salute.

"Jol, right?" Hote asked.

"Yes Brigader. What do I owe the pleasure?"

"Well, I know it's late, but I'd like to ask you something."

"Of course Sir."

"Would you mind looking up the specs for the Tivel rifles? I have a training exercise with the Naseef Royal Army coming up and would like to make sure I'm squared away on their equipment."

"Sure thing. I can send you the file."

Jol headed over to the terminal in the armory as the General grabbed a Pneumatic Baton from the rack and slid it underneath his coat. He tucked the weapon under his arm as Jol started to type away on his keyboard. Even if it was without a battery, the baton was still a baton, and the disk-shaped guard at the top could easily break bones if swung effectively.

Once the files had downloaded, Jol turned to the Colonel and said "Would you like any other specs while I'm at it?"

"No, I'll be fine. Thank you, Jol. I'll be sure to put in a good word with the King."

"I'd appreciate that Sir."

After a nod, Hote the armory and heads towards the elevator. Upon doing so, he took in a deep breath. Part of him hoped he was just being paranoid, but he also knew there was a reason he had a baton tucked under his armpit right now. He felt there was no need to raise an alarm just yet, as the device he found might have been left by accident. The elevator arrived at the guest's chambers. Hote took a deep breath before heading towards Bravi's room, where he found the foreign officer reading a book.

"General? What do I owe the visit?" Bravi asked.

"I believe one of your men left something behind during your little gym visit."

"Did they?"

Hote threw the Spyderbot towards Bravi, who caught it with his book. "Care to explain?"

"Hmm... Must've been attached to my Wrist-Computer. My apologies for the concerns."

"Concerns or not, you do understand what could happen if you were to be caught-"

"Spare me please." Colonel Bravi interjected, slamming his book shut on his Spyder Bot. He then put the book down and stood up. "I know full well what would happen if I attempted espionage right under the King's nose."

"Of course, but I can't have this happening again, okay?"

"It won't."

"It had bet-"

Suddenly, Bravi threw the book at Hote's face. He immediately put his arms over his face, causing the baton to fall. He then looked to Bravi who plunged a Stinger into his midsection. The small needle had managed to penetrate the descending aorta. Blood gushes from the wound as Bravi activates the capsule of compressed air in the needle, further expanding the wound.

Hote gasped in pain as his colorful coat turned crimson. He looked into Bravi's cold eyes before the foreign officer swung an elbow into the side of his head, causing him to fall onto the rainbow of tiles on the floor. Those tiles soon turned red as Bravi proceeded to turn on his wrist computer to send out a message.

"I have been compromised. We must attack now."
