You set several alarms, woke up hours early, and were showered, clothed, and fed by the time the sun started coming up. You wave goodbye to your mom, who was a good sport about letting you stay the extra year, and promise to stop by to show her your new pokemon before you left town.

Stepping out the door, you can smell the dew collected on the bushes nearby, the cool air not enough yet to dry the droplets from the leaves. You take a moment to breathe deeply, savoring the anticipation, both the fear and excitement, of the life-changing events today will bring. You look down the street at your rival's house, and see his window, still dark. Poor Kevin, he likely didn't expect your enthusiasm to actually get you up and out of bed so early. Hopefully he was ok with getting the second best pokemon.

You're already antsy from standing around so long and begin a brisk walk toward the town's lab, where Prof. Babul greets new trainers, gives them a brief rundown of their new responsibilities, and provides them with resources and, of course, their first pokemon for their adventure. As you approach, you hear somebody shout, "Hey Alex!"
