Yes, and many others too

The teams were fighting hard, the pitchers had dominated mostly for both teams leaving the game at a 1-1 tie in bottom of the final inning. Kelsey led off the inning hitting a long fly ball that had everyone thinking she had won the game…but it hung up too long, allowing the Centerfielder to make a dramatic catch while crashing into the wall.

As Kelsey jogged back across the field with her head down, visibly disappointed her power hit came up just short of clearing the fence. Meanwhile, Ava slowly strode confidently towards the batter’s box, taking a few fierce practice swings. She hadn’t done anything in the game, the starting pitcher for the other team had her number, striking her out twice & a weak groundout back to the pitcher. However, a long inning had knocked that pitcher out, meaning Ava had a very favorable matchup. Ava looked out at the mound with her trademark “You’re done” smile through the face mask on her helmet. Ava was ready.

Ava dug into the batters box and took her stance. The pitcher looked in towards her catcher and leaned back. She lounged forward, arm swinging around as the pitch left her right hand towards home plate. It was a straight fastball, dead center of the plate, just above her knees. Ava starts her stride…

*PING*

Ava drops her bat and starts running towards 1st base, the ball sailing towards left-center field. Ava rounds 1st running her hardest towards 2nd, looking up to see the Centerfielder & Left Fielder both running towards the wall. Both converge and calling for it, the Centerfielder has a glove on it, until she collides with the Left Fielder and the ball escapes her glove and rolls away.

Ava touches 2nd and keeps going, looking ahead to her 3rd base coach, who is waving her arm like crazy in a circle indicating Ava to keep going for home. Ava doesnt break stride and starts making a sharp turn and her left foot touches the 3rd base bag to head home. There is one problem that Ava is not aware of in her adrenaline & lost in the moment of the game, the remaining fastened button of her softball pants unceremoniously popped open underneath her jersey top.

As she took her first couple steps after the base, the outfielder had relayed the stray ball back into the infield. The shortstop got the ball and turned and fired towards home. The throw took the catcher slightly towards first base, meaning Ava had to slide on the backstop side of home. Trying to reach the plate as fast as she could, Ava decided she’d need to dive into home plate to score. Ava leaned forward, and put her arms out preparing herself for the slide. She lays out, reaching the plate about the time as the catcher reaches her arm, and touches the plate.

“SAFE!!!!!!” The umpire yelled out.

The cloud of dust from the slide floated in the air, taking a few seconds to finally clear up, and what a championship winning sight was bestowed upon the players, families, etc at the field at that moment.
