'She was a two foot four, three hundred year old loli vampire...'

"STOP!!! You can't write that!" came cascading along with a mediocre ding in the chat-box...

"Why the hell not?"

"Don't you know mate? It's the rules innit"

He slowly and with a minute huff pressed the backspace key, in but a short space of seconds erased his work, and then quickly retyped a sentence for his eager reader to peruse in the chat-box:

"She was a six foot four scanty clad warrior maiden with a cleavage you could ski down..."

"Red Dwarf..."

"What?"

"You got that from Red Dwarf, I'm British mate, trust me I know"

"Fuck" he typed, once again erasing his work "You're really pedantic you know that?"

"Don't be daft mate that's why you love me ain't it?"

"I can think of another four letter word to describe you"

"Cute? Aww Brian you have a silver tongue!"

"Fuck off!" he typed with a modicum of barely suppressed laughter. *sigh* "How long we been doing this now? A decade?"

"Probably more than than to be fair mate, we started as little kids and now we're fully grown adults now!"

That was true of course, when Brian was still in elementary school, they had a bright idea to create a penpal programme. His parents thought it would do him some good and with some minor niggling **** he found himself signing up, admittedly he expected it would be another boy like him, maybe one he could talk to about sports or crude jokes with. His apoplectic look upon discovering the round button nose face of a girl, unmistakably so with long dark red hair tied into two twin-tails tied up with pink bow ribbons, was, with some trepidation, soon replaced with amused smiling when the first lines uttered via voice chat:

"Hiya mate, ow am ya?"

Came through, making Brian wonder where the hell this little girl was from.

Is this girl from a poor country, she doesn't speak English good, not like my teacher taught us...

The now ridiculous first thought he had back then made him cringe now, of course in their getting to know one another he soon discovered she was English, from the UK. Even that became a friendly point of banter years down the line. Yet it was safe to say that despite everything they became good friends, sharing at first their tales of playground fun, then the worry of going to big school, the bullies, the friends, the boyfriends and girlfriends, the parties, getting into trouble with parents, the first kisses, the comforting after relationship break-ups and throughout the years they drew some comfort from the constant reassurance that, at least they were there for each other.
