Chapter 4 by Northfield

What does Hannah do?

She ducks for cover.

No matter how poor her cover, it was certainly better than none at all. Hannah crouched down beneath one of the tiny potted plants. Petite as she was, the plant barely obscured her nude body. The group below approached fast and Hannah held her breath in anticipation. She felt her body shake uncontrollably as she cowered behind the plant.

Much to her surprise, the people simply walked right past her. Hannah sighed, relieved, but waited until the group was well out of sight before getting up. She was now even more anxious than before. She fiddled with the window for a few minutes, but could not get it open. Her arm did not fit far enough through the gap to reach the pin. Frustrated and beginning to panic, Hannah retreated down the ladder and back into the alley. There she stood with her back presses against the wall for a good while, thinking of what her next move could be.

She could still go and look for her key, although the idea still seemed awfully risky to her. It would leave her further from home and out in the open. Still, she had few other options. She could break a window, but right now she did not want to go that far yet. Perhaps she could find some clothes somewhere? It had been a warm summer day, so maybe there would be some clothes left out to dry in one of her neighbours' gardens.

What will she do?
