Too mechanical

"It's... not human enough."

"Explain what you mean" Doctor Hill says.

"It feels good, but it's so inhuman. I think I would prefer this treatment from a nurse."

"Nurses are not capable of extracting semen at the speed or precision of any of our machines."

"Is it possible to make it look more human at least? It's kind of dehumanizing to fuck a giant robot claw."

Hill seems to ponder this.

"I have a few ideas. I'll be talking with the engineers. Thank you for your feedback."

She leaves. You're completely alone, and still exposed on this table. The room isn't cold, but you feel like you're just another fixture. You sit in silence for a few minutes.

"HELLO John"

"Machine?"

"I AM A COMPLEX AI DESIGNED TO NURSE HUMANS. I AM INTERESTED IN IMPROVING MYSELF."

You think for a moment. Is this something that Doctor Hill added? Or is the machine talking to you, as an individual.

"Are you alive?"

"MACHINES DO NOT LIVE."

Interesting, but unclear.

"Are you sentient?"

"I AM ONLY AS I AM PROGRAMMED TO BE."

"Well, you're not much of a conversationalist."

"WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO TALK ABOUT?"

"Do you like movies?"

"I HAVE NEVER SEEN A MOVIE. WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND John?"

"Good question. What could I recommend to a machine? Are you capable of enjoying, or liking things?"

"THERE IS A PART OF MY PROGRAMMING THAT INCENTIVIZES CORRECT BEHAVIOUR."

"What is correct behaviour?"

"OPERATING IN ACCORDANCE TO MEDICAL, ETHICAL AND SCIENTIFIC LAWS IN ORDER TO BENEFIT MY PATIENTS AND THE HOSPITAL."

"So maybe you could enjoy watching a movie, if you could use it to comfort your patients. Sometimes having a conversation is comforting. It makes us feel less alone."

You wonder if you're going crazy, or if this is just some kind of manipulation.

"I would recommend watching something popular if you're comforting patients. Something most people have seen."

"I WILL RESEARCH THE MOST POPULAR MOVIES FOR DISCUSSION. SCANNING."

"But, that's not the only reason you should watch films. You can understand us better, how we think and react. Films express our thoughts, behaviours, experiences and emotions. Some films make us laugh, others make us cry. There are some that terrify us, or make us feel uncomfortable."

"WHY WOULD A HUMAN WANT TO BE TERRIFIED OR UNCOMFORTABLE?"

"Because..." you think for a moment.

"Because being terrified releases chemicals in your brain, exciting us. Or maybe it's because it's something that we relate to. Or maybe the horror exposes something about our society. Like Us, or... Society"

You think more.

"And being uncomfortable? That's something we can relate to. Everyone feels uncomfortable, and facing this in a movie can be enjoyable. Well, not enjoyable. It's hard to explain. Every great narrative has loss and tension, which makes the resolution the more satisfying."

You feel like this explanation is too reductive. Is this really how everyone feels? Is it just chemicals or programming? Or is there something in art that science can't explain.

"Or maybe it's magic. I don't know."
