Chapter 30 by The Other Guy The Other Guy

How did this training session go?

Well is it really training if you aren't scared for your life?

You are tried and sore and covered in smudged ink. You don't know how you are tried you haven't been doing anything but standing around, and yet you are sweating. You do however know why you are sore. Chris kept stamping you in spots there weren't easy to wipe off when you got nervous about how much magic to put into it. Having to stretch around so much was new to you.

"Well all your parts are still attached." Chris was throwing the stamp from hand to hand looking at you.

After, you actually don't know how long there aren't any clocks in here. But you figured out how to tell how much magic to put into a symbol. It was subtly but there was a barely noticeable lowering of the pull that only lasted for a moment. When you figured that out Chris congratulated you by stamping your forehead and saying that different parts of your body will have different amounts of magical limits.

After you panicked slightly Chris then explained that he was lying and actually it was that different parts of the body were more or less open to magical flow. The chest and head were easy limbs lessened as they went.

"And you learned something." Chris put the stamp down and offered his hand. "If you were one of my Chicks I'd keep you here another few hours just to try and get you up to speed with everyone else. But I don't want to. So" He clapped his hands and rubbed them together. "Remember five here every day and we'll call today a free sample." Chris walked to the door opened it and waited for you.

You rubbed your forehead and pulled your fingers away to see ink. "What time is it?" You need to clean up but don't want to miss the duel.

"There are towels over there." Chris waved to the left but didn't really help. "And it's eleven thirty. Later." Chris waved as he closed the door.

Well you have time at least. You walked in the direction Chris waved and saw a cabinet in the wall. Opening it you saw towels... you kinda expected something more magic. You grab one and start to rub your forehead. An inky smudge is now on the towel. Without a mirror you have no idea if that cleaned it or just moved it around so you focus on your hands. as you wipe you see that the towel did remove all the ink from you so you just assume that means your face is clean as well.

You wipe off all the ink you remember Chris putting on you and look for a place to put the towel. Thankfully someone thought of that and put a sign that said 'used towels'. You put the ink smudged one in there.

After all the training try and think of the symbol you and Emily settled on. You can remember it enough that you think you can use it. Either that or you'll have to get used to your left hand.

Pushing that to the back of your mind you walk back to the door. When it opens and you look into the hallway you remember that you don't know your way around. You decide to just go back the main hall the court yard cannot be that far from there right. You take a step then try to think of where the main hall is. You went to Phoenix first them here which would put the main hall, you turn and point in what should be the right direction, this way

As you walk you look at the grotesques. They are all holding a target of various forms. You suppose as an identifier of training ground that is pretty good. You wonder what the main hall grotesques would look like.

You can't think of anything so you just start looking to see if they look at all different. Each intersection you look around to see if there are noticeable changes in the grotesques but can't notice any so you keep walking. You really hope there isn't some magical tomfoolery going on here.

As you reach what should be the last intersection you turn and see the Head Master grinning at you.

"Why hello my young Amarok how are you doing tonight, haven't broken any hearts yet I hope. Care for a drink." You reaches up and opens the drawers in his hat pulling out a bottle and two glasses. He starts to pour the bottle into both then looks at you. "Oh right, don't tell Eden she don't thinks students shouldn't drink on Academy ground. Personally I never saw a problem with it." He offers you a glass so full even slightly tilting it would spill out most of the liquid. "So long as every drinks in appropriate moderation." He is still grinning at you and you take the offered glass feeling a little unsure.

"Thank you?" This feels weird.

"Don't mention it, especially to Eden." He laughs and swallows half his glass. "So about those hearts?"

"I um." You don't know how to answer any of his of questions. so you take a drink to try and avoid talking. As the liquid touches your lips you look at the head master. "Apple juice?" He winks at you and downs the rest of his glass. Ok he's a little strange. You laugh and drink some more. "I'm actually going to see Aimil now. She's about to duel Miss Tenebrae."

"Oh yes such a nice young lady." You aren't sure which one he meant and think that's the point. "Just to check but Morgan did go over the rules vis-à-vis challenges and Amaroks right?"

"Y-yeah she said I can't get involved in it."

"Ah Morgan never was a stickler for the rules. I am sure she meant you can't be caught getting involved. After all if a young man can't try and defend the honor of a werewolf then I don't want to be here." He pulls out the bottle again and offers you a refill. You accept and this time he makes a more reasonable pour.

"R-right." Is the head master giving you permission to break the rules to help Aimil?

"Anyway. I'm glad to see your training is paying off. Young master Chris is a rather harsh tutor but a very good one."

Is he spying on you?

"Of course I'm not spying on you." You feel your eyes widen. He opens another drawer and pulls out a handkerchief. "You've still got some ink on your forehead. Can't charge off on a noble cause with ink on your face, would give all the paintings a rather unfortunate colouring and you have no idea how much they complain."

"I um thank you." you take it and wipe you forehead, which sure enough turns out inky. "Thanks."

"Helping students is my job. Speaking off." He walks over to a door and opens it. On the other side is a very courtyard looking area. You smile and walk though glad you don't have to wonder around. "Oh one last thing when you are for help you should start with people you already know, they might feel like they owe you." He winks and closes the door on you.

Ok that was... helpful you think?
