A Little Advice

A little nervous about some of the rumours you've heard about Hogwarts, you seek advice from Ernie and Hannah. They do a lot to assuage your fears.

"Don't worry about it," Ernie says, "Hogwarts' reputation for hedonism and debauchery is well-founded. Most of the bad stories you've heard about it are probably true, but so are the good stories. Once you learn to navigate the perils, trust me, the good far outweighs the bad."

"Thanks." You say, trying to hide now nervous you really are. You've led a very protected, sheltered life. You're hoping that going to Hogwarts will bring you out of your shell a bit. "Hopefully it won't be too bad."
"Eh, you seem like a good guy, you'll be fine. Though you will need to develop a dark side, if you're too nice, you'll be chewed up and spat out. Also, there are a few basic tips we can give you to make life easier." Ernie pauses here for dramatic effect, and to make sure you're still listening. Hannah picks up where he left off,
"For starters, just assume you're always being observed. No matter how private you feel, assume someone is watching and/or listening. Also, never accept food or drink from anyone. It will almost certainly be spiked with something. Amortentia, Veritaserum, Polyjuice Potion...they're all very common. The food and drink at the house tables will always be safe, but apart from that. Only consume things you've prepared yourself. Finally, teach yourself Occlumency. If people can read your thoughts and intentions it will make it much easier for them to dominate you. Keep your mind secure. Follow those rules, and you'll be fine. And hey, if you need help with anything, just come and see one of us. We've got your back.
