Anything else happening before dinner?
This Just In
"Alright, I'm aware of the issue, Miss Brampton. I can assure you that all necessary approvals have been okayed," Graham Diamond responded to the junior publicist from Diamond Corp. Apparently, Harvey had attempted to deal with this issue prior in the evening, but the young employee didn't trust his brother to follow through. "Not only is Tamsin aware, but so is Florence. So don't fret, Hadley, and try to enjoy your night."
Just once, it would be nice if Harvey could instill some confidence in these employees, Graham wished, shaking his head. He loved his brother dearly, but the elder Diamond's carefree, playboy reputation usually meant more work for him.
Opening the door to the private office wing, Graham nodded and smiled at several hotel workers. Making his way down the plush hallway, he glanced into several doorways, surprised at how many employees appeared to be working late to pull off the charity ball, along with the full-occupancy rate for the holiday. Reaching a reclaimed antique door, Graham knocked on the door only to enter without waiting for a reply.
"Is he begging for forgiveness again?" the younger Diamond brother inquired, grinning. His biological brother and the older man they viewed as an additional sibling broke their hug at the sound of his voice.
"Graham!" Dalton Pierce greeted, swiftly moving to greet him with a half-hug. "I was just asking about Whitney."
"Well, you know Whitney. She's acting--"
"Are you okay? You looked rather tired?" Graham interrupted his brother as he intently studied Dalton's face.
Seven years older than Graham, Dalton had started to show his age in the last year or so. An active, intelligent, and highly competent man, it could be that serving as CEO of Diamond Corp while also owning the renovated Witzler Hotel had started to take its toll. Graham hoped that Sinclair Pierce, Dalton's relative, could begin to assume more responsibilities at the hotel. Still, Dalton's handsome good looks held up with his short, black hair and brown eyes.
"Ah, it's nothing. It's just--"
"Now that he mentions it, you do look exhausted," Harvey chimed in. Then, feeling guilty for not noticing, he silently thanked Graham in his head for being the observant brother.
"It has been a long, tiring trip."
"And you're out of shape when it comes to vacations," Harvey responded, laughing. "A person is supposed to use them to relax, have fun, or both."
"Listen to Harv. He doesn't let more than two weeks pass without 'practicing' his vacation skills," Graham said with mock seriousness.
Harvey's response to his kid brother came in the form of a finger gesture.
"Are we even sure that Harvey relaxes on his trips? All that skirt-chasing must be exhausting. It's hard work to live up to one's mythical status," Dalton teased before switching back. "The flight delays didn't help either. Sage was quite upset about everything. Imogen had to practically shove her upstairs to get dressed rather than race off to find Whitney. She feels guilty for always complaining about Whitney tagging along as a kid."
"Pumpkin does as pumpkin wants."
"Including finding ways to ditch her chaperones," Graham responded. Then, noticing Harvey's surprise, he added, "Tamsin has been monitoring the situation from afar."
"Now, hold on. I want a report about my future successor," Dalton ordered. "What exactly happened? How is she? And who got the unenviable task of babysitting her?"
Graham listened with growing impatience as Harvey butchered much of the retelling. His brother did that with his storytelling by going off on tangents or emphasizing the more salacious aspects. Dalton also knew this, so that's why he began repeating his questions once Harvey seemed to have finished.
"So, who are these chaperones again?"
"Oh, right. Dr. Mayfield is around to keep an eye on her health while Chastity is keeping close," Harvey informed.
"Or Whitney has Chastity keeping Dr. Mayfield distracted," Graham revealed.
"Really? Huh...I guess that's what Chastity meant a little earlier," Harvey replied. He hoped Willow hadn't caught on to that victory for their daughter. She'd already demanded that Chastity be fired from her duties because Whitney joined that fight. "Uh, I had hoped to use Spencer Vine as extra help, but I haven't seen him yet tonight."
"I'm sorry, Harv. I hadn't realized. I sent Spencer off to run an errand for me," Dalton revealed.
"You know, I kinda like Spencer. He seems to have a good head on his shoulders. Follows orders even better."
"And Mr. Vine seems popular with the ladies. I wouldn't look at him for your new wingman. The age difference and his boyish charm might not be flattering to you," Graham needled.
"Oh, really? Well, maybe we should assign Mr. Vine to you. His new role can be filtering out all the gold diggers," Harvey shot back, proving that the age comment struck a nerve.
"Is that a fleck of gray in your hair?" Graham said, appearing to peer at his head.
"Gee, I don't know, but if it's in your head, then maybe you're secretly a Wynwick. I might hate Dad, but at least I look like him."
"Boys, boys, boys, that's enough," Dalton said. While Harvey and Graham didn't bicker often, it still happened enough that he'd grown used to playing peacemaker.
"What's up your butt, Grammy? Mad that you skipped the cabin trip when it turns out that Bridget came without Leonard?" Harvey questioned, nearly going nuclear.
"I don't go after married women. I'm not that Diamond brother."
"Whoa, whoa!" Dalton yelled, stepping between the brothers before anything escalated further. "I get that everyone's nerves are rattled after Whitney's scare. However, let's not ruin tonight. Shake hands and apologize. Shake!"
Always viewing Dalton as an extra brother, Harvey and Graham followed his command. And while he wasn't thrilled by the lackluster mumbles, Dalton opted to move the conversation along.
"So the old crush is around. Harvey's just mad that he never had the classic crush. He was too impatient ever to wait for one to develop," Dalton teased. "Now, did I hear correctly? It was Bridget's son who rescued Whitney?"
"I owe Sean everything. If he hadn't been at the right place at the right time..."
Harvey struggled to speak as the emotion overwhelmed him. That made Graham feel awful for letting his own issue get him to needle his brother. Sensing that Harvey needed a moment, Dalton filled the silence.
"I can't say that I've encountered Bridget's son for many years. I've seen her daughter, Peyton, more often as she's close in age to Sage. Wait! I do recall someone pointing him out at one of the school dances here earlier this year. Homecoming? No, I think it was prom last spring. Looks like his father."
"Takes after his mother, from what I hear," Graham supplied.
"No, no, Sean takes after Seamus," Harvey stated, finally able to speak again. "He's got some of his mom in him, but I've witnessed several instances this week where I could see the old detective in the kid."
"I see more Bridget in him. It's kind of eerie," Graham remarked.
"Oh, you wanna hear eerie? This morning, Whitney needed a nap, and Bridget decided to be her doctor. Well, you know my pumpkin," Harvey said, shrugging.
"Yes, we do. She walks all over both of you," Dalton replied, smiling at the two Diamond brothers. "So it's an easy guess that she skipped the nap."
"I was busy elsewhere, but she kept delaying it. Well, Bridget finally snapped. I walked in on the tail end, and I fucking swear, Bridget turned into the spitting image of her mom."
"Seriously?" Graham questioned in disbelief.
"I know! Bev always mimicked her mom when she got angry. I'd never seen that in Bridget ever. Nor does it sound like most of her friends. They were practically rolling on the floor in laughter. They even sent Tinsley the video, who also flipped out."
"How did Whitney respond?" Dalton queried. "She's not used to being ordered around."
"De-aged by almost a decade with her whining while stomping her way to the bedroom," Harvey recounted, chuckling. "The funny thing is that I think Whitney kinda appreciated it. Willow used to yell more often over trivial stuff. How her behavior affected her image and stuff like that."
"I'm going to need to see that video," Graham remarked, smiling. "And stop by to thank Sean again."
"I'll have to reintroduce myself to him. I always liked Bridget's father. Spending time with him was the best part of your dating Beverly," Dalton commented. "So I understand that The Stinging Truth made a few allegations. How's Bev handling it?"
"I've chickened out so far and avoided her," Harvey admitted. "Hey, don't give me that look. I might be a coward, but I'm a smart coward who knows his ex-high school girlfriend. It won't be pretty, and I have Willow to deal with, too. She flew back from her vacation and is at the ball."
"Yes, from what I hear, there was a little Fallon family blowup when Bev arrived," Graham passed along.
"Is Tamsin spying on everyone tonight?" Harvey questioned in exasperation.
"You're just jealous that we hire our personal assistants for skills that matter at the company," Dalton remarked. Not waiting for a comeback that could send the conversation off on a tangent, he checked the time. "We'd better get moving with this meeting. Dinner is close to starting. What did you all want to discuss so urgently?"
"Right. I need to let you guys know about something first," Harvey began.
"Hang on. Shouldn't we wait for Clive before talking about the election?" Graham asked.
"This is about the election? Is it about the attacks on Dunkley?" Dalton inquired, moving to sit on his desk.
"Yeah, Harvey found out a few things, and I've checked--"
"No, this is something different. And I suggest we discuss it before Clive arrives."
A medley of knocks sounded on the door.
"Too late," Dalton said, his interest piqued by what he missed while out of town.
"That can't be Clive," Graham commented, moving toward the door.
"It's not."
Harvey's statement proved correct as Graham opened the door to find Chastity.
"Hiya, Mr. Graham! Tamsin said you wanted to see me."
"I didn't tell Tamsin--"
"I did," Harvey revealed.
"And she listened to you?" Graham questioned.
"Barely. I swear that woman doesn't trust me. If I asked for anyone else besides Chastity, I doubt she would've helped," Harvey complained. "What have you told Tamsin about me?"
"She doesn't need me to tell her anything. Everyone talks, including Shenai, who shared way, way too many details of your adventures. Hey, Dalton, how about we hire Shenai's replacement? He could use an assistant to handle dictation, not his dick. Oh, sorry, Chastity."
The bubbly receptionist didn't hear as she scanned the office in awe.
"Alright, now you're sounding like Avery or Ms. Mims. Seriously, why the crabby--Oh!" Harvey exclaimed as the possible reason hit him. "Shit, sorry, Chastity, I mean, crap, I should've warned you that Ramona is in the hotel. I sent Tamsin a warning."
"Wait, what? Ramona is here too?!" Graham repeated in shock. He briefly wondered why his assistant hadn't said anything before realizing that Tamsin likely wanted to shield him until she knew more.
"Too?" Dalton picked up on it.
"Yeah, I just ran into Joely about fifteen minutes ago," Graham revealed.
"There are two of your scheming ex-girlfriends here tonight?" Harvey realized in his own shock.
"Eh, it's the New Year's Eve charity ball. Lots of wealthy men and women are around for the gold diggers to target. I've learned it comes with the hotel business," Dalton stated. In his attempt to calm Graham down, he covered up his own surprise and suspicion.
"But neither Ramona nor Joely is from the area," Graham pointed out. "Either this is an incredible coincidence or something--"
"Is off," Harvey finished as a sliver of suspicion woke up in his mind and waved hello. "Oh, boy! This...this might be connected to why I brought Chastity in here. Uh, Chastity?"
"Is everything alright?" Dalton inquired with an amused grin toward the blonde. "Haven't you been in here before?"
"Sweet Christmas! I'm in your 'other' office, Mr. P. It feels like cheating," Chastity responded, still staring at the foreign land.
"Technically, this is the other woman in Dalton's life that he cheats on Diamond Corp with. So, good call," Harvey complimented, causing the office's owner to roll his eyes.
"Was Tamsin joining us, Chastity?" Graham inquired.
"Goodness gracious! Tam saw the TV cameras and rushed off to check on them."
"TV cameras?!" Graham and Harvey said at the same time.
"Relax. Channel 13 is here to do a story on Cassandra's foundation. One of their new reporters is an old classmate of Finley's, so Rachel suggested the idea," Dalton informed the brothers. "I gave them permission to roam the hotel for interviews and segments."
"Ah, that's a nice idea," Graham commented, nodding in approval.
"And it's totally something Rachel would think of. But before her husband arrives, I want Chastity to tell you who she saw earlier tonight," Harvey said, prodding the blonde to retell her tale.
"Galloping gremlins! I've seen sooo many people tonight. First, I ran into Mrs. Hardwicke in the parking garage and...kitty whiskers." Chastity's voice dropped at the last words. "I super-duper hope that she doesn't have Alzheimer's, as she didn't seem to recognize me. Then, I saw Lemon Leighton--who I love to talk baking--"
"Chastity, let's just focus on the man you saw leaving the hotel," Harvey interrupted to steer the conversation back on track.
"Shucks! Sorry, Mr. Harvey. Do you mean Mr. Tenno?"
The name rocked back both Dalton's and Graham's heads.
"Did you say Tenno? Tommy Tenno?" Graham queried.
"Frapsolutely!" Chastity nodded.
"Are you sure you saw Tomohiro Tenno?' Dalton questioned.
Harvey's lips formed a smile as the usually bubbly blonde's hands went to her hips. So rare were Chastity's moments of indignation that Harvey enjoyed knowing that Dalton would get the same response to that question that he got earlier.
However, Dalton knew his main door receptionist well. Throwing up his hands, he stopped the tirade before it began.
"I didn't mean to question your memory. I just meant that many years have passed since you probably last saw Mr. Tenno," Dalton clarified.
"By Caesar's ghost! I could never forget Mr. Tenno. He looks like the bad man in Grandma's favorite James Bond movie. The one that has Pussy Galore, Grandma's favorite character. She said that I can say the p-word because it's her name. It still feels icky, but if Grandma says so..."
"Oddjob!" Graham shouted as he recalled the character's name.
"Thank you, Graham. We'd have never guessed," Harvey teased before turning serious again as his eyes met Dalton's.
The CEO of Diamond Corp looked troubled, if not rattled by the news. Neither he nor Harvey spoke, so it fell to Graham to express what they all thought,
"I got a bad feeling about this."
"Ooh! I know that movie. Or all of them!" Chastity exclaimed.
"No, he meant that this doesn't sound good. Tommy Tenno only works for one man," Harvey said, causing the blonde to frown until the wheels turned to the proper spot. Then, a concerned face replaced her usually cheerful demeanor.
"Yes, why is Hannibal's fixer in town, and what is he doing in my hotel?" Dalton asked the question that the others thought.
"Fuck, "Graham spat. This time, Chastity didn't even flinch at the curse. "Is this when Dad comes back for his ****?"
Harvey glanced over at Dalton, who appeared stone-faced at the news now.
"We need to figure out what Tommy was doing here. Who he met and for how long. Then, check the flights in and out of Blackbridge, especially private charters. We need to know if he came alone," Graham rattled off.
Harvey took a deep breath before suggesting the last resort option.
"Should we initiate Operation Downpour?"
"Holy Smokes! I know that one," Chastity exclaimed. "Golly, it's been so long. I can't wait to see--"
"No names, Chastity," Dalton said, finally breaking his silence.
Graham shot Harvey a dirty glare.
"I didn't tell her," Harvey denied.
"No, I think our top expert in people deduced that herself, didn't you?" Dalton inquired with a tight smile.
The receptionist nodded proudly.
"And we can't risk our agent's name getting exposed. Only four people know--"
"Five," Graham interrupted Dalton. "I told Tamsin."
"Do you tell her everything?!"
"I'm head of operations. She needed to know," he replied to his brother.
"Alright, then, besides us and Florence, that makes--"
"Six," Harvey cut in this time. "But Jason Quill also knows. He is in charge of company security."
"Does anyone else know?" Dalton questioned, sounding annoyed.
"Did we ever tell Hera O'Hara?" Harvey inquired about the company's top lawyer.
"No. It's better that she has deniability if it comes to that," Dalton replied.
"Obviously, we never told Avery," Graham remarked.
"Avery Prescott has proven to be loyal."
"He was also Dad's toady," Graham reminded Dalton.
"Who has been greatly rewarded over the years," Dalton said, defending DC's current CFO.
"My money is on Avery as the one that Tommy Tenno met," Harvey speculated.
Chastity nodded wholeheartedly.
"Okay, that means we're up to seven people now," Dalton stated, nodding at Chastity before addressing her. "Mum's the word. Understand?"
The bubbly blonde nodded and mimicked Dalton zipping his lips closed.
"So we should check the security footage. See where Tommy went," Harvey said.
"We need to lock down that footage. I wouldn't put it past Dad to have a man working at the hotel," his brother added.
"I'll call Sinclair right now," Dalton said, referring to his cousin's son. "After that, I need to tell you why this might be happening right--"
"Hold on!" Graham called out. Glancing at his phone, he read the text message in disbelief. "Turn on the news, now!"
"Channel 13?" Dalton asked, reaching for the remote.
"No, 4 or 7."
Harvey asked his brother what happened, but Graham only pointed toward the television as Dalton turned it on.
"What the--"
"Fudge!" Chastity finished Harvey's swear before covering her mouth as they all read the chyron on the TV screen and saw the man being grilled.
"So you have no comment, District Attorney Stratton?" Bradley Kord, lead reporter for WENG's I-Team, questioned on-screen.
"Get that mic out of my face," Clive ordered the WBRD reporter, who had shoved it so far forward that it hit him in the mouth. "These allegations are unfounded and ludicrous."
"Bribery, fraud, conspiracy, and witness tampering. All these allegations of public corruption have facts to back them up," Kord declared, holding up a stack of papers. "The public deserves the truth."
"Will you resign?" the other reporter questioned.
"For what?! This is bull...bullcrap," Clive replied, barely catching himself.
"Shut this down, now!" Dalton screamed through the phone as Sinclair answered.
"We need to get out there," Graham said needlessly as Harvey was already out the door.
Slamming the phone down, Dalton rushed after them. Only Chastity remained in the office, staring in horror at the scene playing out in the hotel lobby and the chyron superimposed over it.
