Wake her up

You reach over and give Karen a shake.

“Wake up,” you order.

She mumbles something. You shake her again.

“Unnhg,” she replies, pushing back with her hand.

“Wake up or suffer the consequences,” you warn.

She mumbles something else, but it sounds like swears.

You haul back and smack her ass.

“Ow! Fuck!” Karen rolls over, glaring at you.

“Disobedient children get punished,” you say with a yawn, standing up. “Air this room out and change Thandi’s sheets.”

“Why me?”

“Last one out of bed has to do it,” you say.

Kris and Lisey react quickly, leaping to their feet.

“Ugh,” Karen says disgustedly. “Fine.”

“Great,” you say, bending to pick up your clothes from last night. It’s straight to the shower for you, and you’ll let Roxy share it with you because there aren’t enough showers up here for all five of you to have your own. The others follow you out of Thandi’s room, but you freeze at an unexpected sound: the doorbell.

“What in the world?” Lisey says. “What time is it?”

You don’t know, but it’s very early. It’s still dark outside. This is odd.
