Chapter 9
by Dm
Do you push it?
Relent
"Fine..." You concede. If you're going to be stuck with these people for a while you really don't want there to be bad blood between you. You really should do something about Jessie before she becomes problematic though. "BUT! There's gonna be some ground rules. We don't split off, we don't wander too far from the shuttle, and if I say we go back then we go back. Understood?"
"Yeah yeah, no problem." Jessie beamed at you.
Somehow you doubted her word, but you'd deal with her if and when it would be necessary. Instead, the three of you turned towards the shuttle's hatch. Jessie, being the first to reach it, proceeded to unlock the seal. It so happened that the hatch had been damaged in the crash, as it took her pressing her whole body against it to **** it to open with the loud screech of grating metal.
"There we go..." She huffed, trying to insert a little bit of showmanship. "Our new home!"
Beyond the door laid a beautiful lush jungle. It assaulted all your senses; with its vibrant colours, sweet and exotic perfume, and a cacophony of chirps and trills that indicated at a diverse wildlife.
"Whoa." you found yourself saying without thinking.
You took tentative steps outside, followed closely by your companions. There was so much to take in, it made you forget about your situation and you had to admit it was pleasant to do so.
"This is amazing." Emilie commented. "In all our research and simulations, we never expected the Gaia seed to take this well. The biodiversity here is... it's just... it's amazing."
Looking back towards the craft, you began to appreciate the extent of the damage. {if let_jess_fly == true}Jessie really had done a number on it. There were branches and leaves stuffed in every gap that could be stuffed. But the most concerning was the giant gash that ran along the ships hull where the piece of debris had struck. From the looks of it, it had been a glancing hit for which you were thankful. A direct impact could have very well taken you out.{elseif let_jess_fly == false}Despite your best efforts, damage was inevitable. There were branches and leaves stuffed in every gap that could be stuffed and some of the hull's panel were missing.{else}Error: make sure game mode is on.{endif} Behind the craft was a giant gash in the jungle, some 300 ft. long where the craft had come crashing through. Other than that there didn't seem to be any more damage. There were no smoke or fire which was a good sign and with a little luck the ship might still even be salvageable.
"I don't hear any water running. Do you girls?" You asked, having been brought back to your situation by the sight of the ship.
They remained silent for a while before shaking their heads no. You looked around a little, trying to come up with something until finally your eyes rested on a tree.
"If one of us climbs above the canopy, we might be able to spot a stream from there." You remarked.
The three of you looked up at the jungle's ceiling. Laying some 120 ft. above you, it looked like an unappealing climb, especially in this higher gravity.
You heard Jessie gasp and when you turned to face her you saw that she had the back of her hand pressed against her forehead in a faux fainting motion.
"Oh!" She exclaimed before throwing herself at you. You were barely able to catch her in time before she hit the ground. "Oh my Hercules! How will we ever manage? We are not as strong and brave as you are." She kept going with her melodrama.
"Yeah, yeah, I get it. You want me to climb the tree." You said, straining under her increased weight.
"Would you do that? Oh how fortunate we were to find a hero such as yourself. Us poor unfortunate damsels in-"
"I can still drop you you know..."
Who climbs the tree?
