Chapter 16 by Fiftyfiftyfifty Fiftyfiftyfifty

What do you do?

Arrive in City-3.

At long last, the flying bus docks at your destination. Though, it only looks slightly better than where you began. From what you can tell, not every biodome looks like a wreck, but you're beginning to see that perhaps the economy in Syonn isn't the greatest. On top of that, Dr. Freling certainly likes to frequent the most shabby locations on the planet. She is a wanted woman, so as time goes on, you slowly ponder about how you're going to need to accept your criminal life by proxy.

The sounds of hovering cars whizz overhead, and the streets are more lively with the mumbling of citizens. While there aren't tons on this street, you can see them in windows all around you--tall buildings, illuminated with life.

She glances to you as your walk begins. "It's a little tricky to get in and out of Syonn, at least compared to a lot of other planets, just because of these domes. They're necessarily of course, or plenty of species wouldn't do well with the low gravity, or... well, lack of oxygen, atmosphere, or anything else that usually sustains life. Anyway, that's why I hired the best of the best."

"Ooh, really? Who is it?"

After reaching into her coat, she pulls out something small and places it on her palm. You think it's some kind of storage capsule, or tiny robot, until she pops the gum into her mouth and begins to chew. "Ah... I don't know."

You stare back. "Excuse me?"

"I mean, they have to be pretty good, right?" she asks with a shrug.

"Why are you asking me?"

"That was a hypothetical question."

"So was mine... but what do you mean you don't know?"

She continues to chew her gum. "Well, if they were actually well-known, it'd be way too dangerous to get off planet with them, so I found somebody nobody knew. That's the secret, Julie. Trust me. I've been doing this kinda thing for quite some time."

I guess that makes sense. Still, it seems risky in itself.

"Chin up," she continues. "We're almost there. It'll be fine. Look ahead there. You can actually see it from here. That should be it, anyway. Soaring Starlight is what the ship's called apparently. A smaller vessel, platinum in colour. There's a black emblem on the side that looks like a star. Can you zoom in and let me know?"

"Oh. Of course." You nod and focus your sensors to zoom on the distant parked ship. Pale sheen. Kinda dirty, but the emblem is visible. It looks like it wouldn't fit a crew of more than half a dozen, but a larger ship would make being subtle more difficult. "You're right, Doctor."

"Excellent. Thank you, Julie."

Wait a second. I heard something. You turn your attention to an old warehouse near where several other ships are docked. It doesn't look like Dr. Freling heard, but you're certain there was a terrible noise coming from that direction--a woman screaming for help.

"What is it?" she asks.

"I think--" Again, you hear it, but louder this time. "Did you hear that? Someone's screaming."

She scratches her ears. "No I didn't. Boy, I really built you well, didn't I?"

"We should check it out."

The doctor briefly pauses to look at the time on her wrist, but then she smiles. "Oh you." Her attention also turns to where you were previously staring. "Let's go then. Lead the way."

What do you do?
