The glow of a flashlight falls over you again, this time with Stump holding it. “We’re not leaving you behind, idiot. Your battle made for a great distraction, though. Good job. I doubt we could’ve snuck up on them otherwise.”

“Found it!” declares another voice in an excited whisper. Jenny too? They both came back for you? “I’ve got the key. Come over here you two, and I’ll unlock your shackles.”

You follow Jenny’s voice, a feeling of numbness taking over your senses. You were so sure that you were fighting to protect them, but they were really saving you all along? No, it’s not that simple, is it? The Professor said your battle was important in saving you. But they didn’t know you were battling! What was their plan? Did they just rush back to save you without thinking? What if the lights had turned back on!? They’d have been caught for sure!

After a moment, the three of you are freed from the bindings you’d been stuck in for the past week. It’s a relief for sure, but it’s overshadowed by a shiver as you think about how serious that battle really was. You’re just glad you weren’t expected to win.

The rest of your escape goes as planned. Better, in fact, since you never had any ideas for how to get a key for your bindings. You remain in each other’s arms for a long while, nothing on your minds except enjoying the fact that you’re no longer under Team Rocket’s thumb. Officer Jenny joins in as well, giving you some gentle pats on the head. After some time, Jenny breaks the silence with a chuckle. “I should get back to the station, so I’ll leave you both to yourselves. I have a lot to report, after all. Once the chief hears about this, we’ll definitely be able to shut their whole operation down and catch those criminals red-handed. You take care, now!”
