Stall the weakened Dragonair

“Mankey, watch for your opponent! Dodge any incoming attacks!”

Mankey sits down.

“DON’T GET HIT GOD DAMN IT!”

Mankey stands back up and goes on full alert. Several seconds pass, likely with your opponent either strategizing, or just trying to wear down Mankey’s nerves. Suddenly, she shouts, “Dragon Rage!”

A ball of energy is launched into the spotlight of the two guards’ flashlights, but Mankey’s reflexes are good enough to dodge. That’s when you give your order.

“Mankey, FOCUS ENERGY!”

A slight aura of red surrounds Mankey as it follows your command. Good. You can continue at this pace, drawing out the battle as long as you can to give your friends enough time to escape. As you’re feeling good about Mankey’s ability to dodge, though, you hear a chuckle coming from your opponent.

“Focus Energy? Really? What are you planning to do, sweep my entire team? With that thing?”

“Well, wait until he’s all powered up and maybe you’ll find out!” you bark back. Mankey huffs in agreement.

“Such sass. I’m surprised you can muster that much attitude, given the number of times your brains have been fucked out in the past week. But that just proves that you need my personal touch in order to fall in line, doesn’t it?”

You won’t fall for her taunts! “FOCUS ENERGY AGAIN!”

The boss sounds deflated as she replies, “Ignoring your mistress won’t make things any easier after you lose. Now then, Dragonair, use Dragon Dance!”

Her pokemon, though out of sight, makes a sound of hesitation. Its paralysis must be getting in the way. The woman barks, “You’ll fight ‘til you’ve won or lost! Dragon Dance, now!”

Meanwhile, you continue ordering Mankey to use Focus Energy. Getting the mean lady into a standoff by buffing your pokemon is turning out to be a good way to waste time. Making Mankey really strong is a good tradeoff, too, but letting her power up her Dragonair is a bit risky. If Mankey can’t KO her Dragonair after this, then the rest of your team might have to face an almost fainted, but insanely strong, Dragonair.

After a few rounds of preparing, the Rocket boss is the first to lose her patience. “I’m calling that ample time to power up. Let’s see your little monkey get faceplanted in one hit. Dragonair, Dragon Rush!”

“MANKEY KARATE CHOP THAT DRAGON!”

Mankey lets loose a battlecry as it awaits an attack from any direction. The sleek, blue dragon rushes into the light at top speed, intent on ramming into Mankey with the **** of a bulldozer. But Mankey’s reflexes kick in just in time, and it clashes against Dragonair with a chop that resounds through the room as though the floor had been cleaved in two. Both pokemon go flying back, likely KO’d by the **** of each other’s attacks.

You can hear the smugness in her voice as the woman says, “Aww, what a shame. I guess all that ‘energy focusing’ was for nothing. Maybe you’ll know well enough to just finish off a weakened opponent next time. Not that there will be a next time for you to apply such wisdom.”

“Primeape.”

Cold silence hangs in the air as the guards frantically scan the room with their flashlights until they finally find your former Mankey, now in its evolved form.

“Primeape,” it repeats, as though proclaiming its victory.

Mankey has evolved into Primeape!
