The classroom environment

Home economics, as well as the science class's section about puberty, were the only classes Gina received credit in anymore, not based on her merit and ability to actually do the work, but participation credit as an excellent teaching aid. Childcare was taught on her. How to change a diaper, how to make a bottle, naptimes and scheduling, "enrichment" activities to help child development (or rather having "See Spot Run" read ad nauseum, and failing to stack rings with an audience).

At least in the classroom, the class was okay. By Gina's increasingly diminishing standard of okay. With Ms. Stepford present, the humiliations and indignities were...rote. oh no, everyone treats her like a giant baby, like that wasn't already happening. In class it was just the focal point, all the bottle feedings as everyone had to demonstrate being able to warm a bottle of formula, support her head, and let her drink.

Gina used her diaper more, but that was old hat, Gina internalized that she was a diaper dependent loser long before now. The difference here was that everyone was required to check her, and through a rotation, change her. Gina knew she couldn't do anything on her own to stop this treatment, her curse of dependency all but assured any resistance was met with a pacifier and use of safety staps on classroom changing table.

One aspect that had started as utterly humiliating and quickly became just another fact of life for Gina was having an audience for all of these experiences. It would be unrealistic for Ms. Stepford to watch and grade every interaction, so the room had cameras equipped so that each student had an objective record of their work. In addition, the feeding and changing stations were in the class, with rows of students watching each diaper change, every drop of milk dribbling out of her mouth, every pat of her back as she was assisted in even burping.

It was the infantilization that Gina received at home, but with a live student audience, and a rotating open hosting spot, with no break that Gina's classes afforded her. At least in math or geography, she was sat in her stroller, free to doodle or nap without it being the center of focus, but during the childcare unit, home ec was all of her classes, with several periods of students learning how to care for a baby by practicing on her.

And being the teaching aid, there was also a level of, objectification seems **** and dehuminizing didn't quite fit, but the teacher would abstract the lesson. Now the final project was going to start, every student, with parental/guardian knowledge and consent, was going to have custody of Gina, as a practice baby, to live with and demonstrate caregiving skills, for at least 2 days. Students were assigned days, being given either week days, or if paired up, a friday and a saturday with Ms. Walker collecting Gina to have home on sunday.
