Against a Water-type Gym Leader, your Grass-type is an obvious choice. If your Oddish was able to beat her last time you fought, then your Gloom can take on her Starmie. “Gloom, I choose you!”

Sleep Powder will be a good way to start. That will slow her down from any plans she might try. You haven’t fought her Starmie yet, so it’s important that you get the upper hand. “Gloom, use Sleep Powder!”

In response to your choice, Misty smiles with satisfaction. “So your Oddish evolved, huh? Still, you made a mistake picking the same pokemon you beat me with last time. Starmie, use Psybeam!”

It’s fast! Gloom sprays blue powder at Starmie, but not before it launches a multi-colored beam at Gloom. It lands and deals some serious damage. Fortunately, Starmie is asleep now, so you can turn things around.

“Gloom, get close and use Acid!” There, that will weaken its special defense.

Gloom’s attack hits, but it barely has an effect on Starmie. It wakes up immediately, and Misty orders a Psybeam without hesitation. Gloom’s having trouble even standing now, so you need to use Mega Drain.

“Gloom, use Mega Drain!”

“Psybeam!”

Starmie’s attack hits first, defeating Gloom and winning her the battle.

Misty’s grin is as smug as it could be. “Well, looks like you haven’t outgrown the rookie title yet! Come on rookie, you’re mine for tonight!”

“Tch…” You allow Misty to drag you along, frowning like a sore loser. You were trying to strategize and she just used Psybeam a bunch! No fair!
