Chapter 58 by Eastwood Eastwood

What's next?

Five days later

Five days later, you took shelter in a cave hideout somewhere hidden in a frozen meadow. You went out in the afternoon to collect some berries, and when you came back, you found the two boys asleep around an unlit fire. They were shaking.

You were pale, hungry, and the new lad was sick. The same day you ran away, you found out his name was John. John was a very odd looking guy, mostly pale like that. He had a long face, long like a horse's face. He was big, the size of a scarecrow, and thin as if he were made of sticks. His eyes were big, like when they describe hauntings in books. His features pale and quiet.

“We need to find a better spot” Jimmy said.

"I know, but John needs to recover, and if we keep this up, even our horses won't be able to handle it."

“Did you see them out there?”

“No… it looks like there was a storm when we left Castle Black. This helped to camouflage our footsteps. They must be looking, but we strayed too far off the road for them to be sure where to go.”

You lit the fire once more and stood around it with your hands stretched out to the fire. It was very cold.

"I know a way to keep us warm," Jimmy whispered in your ear.

"But..." you looked at John. The boy already understood. He knew something and didn't want to tell. You wondered if Jimmy had said something. John frowned and looked away. Suddenly he started coughing.

“He won't mind,” Jimmy whispered. "I told him…about us."

You blushed and looked at the fire and then at Jimmy.
