New Neighbor

You get ready to work in a hurry. You fell asleep after your alarm clock woke you up and now you have very little time. So when you hear a doorbell, you're not happy. Nevertheless you go to the door and open it slightly.

'Hi!' says cheerfully a man that stands outside. You frown and eye him up and down. He's pretty handsome. Blonde hair, green eyes, sharp jaw, smile of a troublemaker. He's wearing baggy trousers, hoodie and sneakers. And another important detail: you have no idea who he is.

'Hi?' you say, puzzled.

'I've just moved in,' the man explains the riddle, pointing behind him at the door to an apartment that's been empty since you can remember and is opposite to yours. 'I'm Josh.'

'Jane,' you introduce yourself and shake his extended hand. A current passes it for a second, making you shiver.

'It's nice to meet you, but I'm in a hurry a bit...' you say.

'I understand,' Josh says and smiles. 'I just wanted to say "hello". Maybe we will get to know each other later.'

'Yeah, maybe,' you say flatly and wait for him to turn and leave. Then you close the door and return to getting ready.

You manage to get to your work on time. And your new neighbor doesn't cross your mind to the end of the day.
