What's next?
A better option?
"...And those are our ideas. You've tangled with the Kingpin more than any of us, Gwen -- do you have any thoughts?"
Gwen paused to think for a moment as she took a sip from her coffee mug. "Vanessa Fisk," she said.
MJ looked at Gwen inquisitively "The Kingpin's wife?"
"A couple of weeks ago, I was crawling around a construction site - a front for one of Fisk's operations. I overheard two thugs talking. Apparently Mrs. Fisk is desperately looking for a way to escape their marriage... maybe we can use that somehow?"
"You might be right," Natasha said, inspired. "Let me give Matt a call. If anyone knows anything about Fisk's marriage, it's him."
A few minutes later, Natasha returned to the living room. "I just had the most interesting conversation with Matt Murdock," she smiled.
"And?" Felicia asked. "Did you find out anything new?"
"Oh, I did," Natasha grinned. "And it's good. Really, really good. From the sound of things, Vanessa Fisk has, indeed, been looking for a way to escape her marriage with the Kingpin. Rumor has it she's even discussed hiring Elektra Natchios, an assassin, to take him out."
MJ, Felicia & Gwen sat wide-eyed, trying to process the shocking new information.
"Whoa," said Felicia. "So where would we come in? Do we try to convince Vanessa to testify against her husband?"
"Exactly. Oh, and it gets better -- on top the rumors of Mrs. Fisk hiring Elektra, Matt also suspects that the two may be having an affair."
Gwen's jaw dropped, even further stunned. Meanwhile, MJ, Natasha and Felicia shared knowing glances -- both Vanessa Fisk and Elektra Natchios were stunning women, and the three women were definitely enjoying the thought of a lesbian affair between them.
"The big question is, would Mrs. Fisk be willing to testify? It's a very dangerous proposition for her," MJ pointed out.
"Matt seems to think so," Natasha answered. "Thing is, we'd have to talk to her first, and apparentl Fisk has her on lockdown at their estate."
"Seems like Fisk knows something," Felicia mentioned. "I'm surprised he hasn't had her killed yet."
"Wilson Fisk has always had a soft spot for Vanessa," Gwen explained. "As long as they're married, he'd never let her come to harm, even if it hurts him somehow."
"It looks like we've found Fisk's achilles heel," said Natasha. "This may be our best shot at taking him down."
MJ nodded. "I agree. Even so, we should weigh all our options. Let's sleep on it for now."
"Speaking of which, as long as I'm on this case with you guys, it might be easier if I stay with you guys for a while. You guys don't mind, do you?" Gwen asked.
Felicia grinned, "Of course not. Gwen, stay with us as long as you want -- we've got plenty of rooms." MJ nodded in agreement and smiled warmly.
Gwen's eyes opened slowly as she looked at the alarm clock sitting on the bedside table. "2:30 AM... shit," she muttered to herself. "It's gonna be a long night, isn't it?"
For the next few minutes, she tossed and turned, trying to get comfortable in an attempt to get back to sleep. No luck, Gwen thought to herself. Maybe some water will help.
Gwen made her way to the kitchen and grabbed herself a glass of water, sipping it as she looked out the window at the Manhattan skyline. (...)
Her train of thought was interrupted as she realized there was a light on on the penthouse balcony around the corner. At first, Gwen had just written it off as someone forgetting to turn off the lights, but curiosity got the best of her. Besides, she didn't feel like she'd be falling asleep anytime soon. Might as well see if there's someone to talk to while I'm up, she thought.
As she rounded the corner and saw what was going on in the jacuzzi, Gwen's jaw dropped.
