Happy Wife, Happy Life

Jodie dropped her bag by the door and flung her arms around Lauren as she bounded into the apartment. "Jodie!" Lauren shouted wrapping her arms around the girl as best she could with Jodie's chest in her face thanks to Lauren being barefoot and Jodie's five inch heels. "I missed you so much! I've got great news! We-" Lauren cut herself off remembering Janet's warning on Thanksgiving night. Jodie could not be trusted to not let something slip by accident. As much as she loved the girl Lauren had to admit she wasn't exactly Fort Knox when it came to secrecy.

"We, what?" Jodie smiled expectantly.

"We're going shoe shopping."

"That is great news!" Jodie giggled.

"Jodie." Eric smiled, though he was a great deal quieter than his sister he was no less excited to see his love.

Jodie smiled and instinctively slipped her right hand behind her back. She had no reason to worry of course, as soon as she got out of the car she immediately removed her ring. "Fuz-Eric." She stopped herself and gave Eric a gentle hug. Eric's smile faltered a moment before he hugged her back. He had expected something equal to how she greeted Lauren. He chalked it up to travel fatigue and picked her up off of the ground, one heel falling from her foot as he swung her around and kissed her.

Jodie fought back a smile despite herself. She would miss how it felt when he picked her up so easily. Something she used to hate but had come to love about how their relationship had changed over these past months. "I wish you could've been here for Thanksgiving!"

Jodie cleared her throat and remembered her new plan, "I thought, like, you had to work?"

"Jodie I didn't say I had to work on Thanksgiving day. I had some work earlier that week but not that day. It's why I couldn't go home this year."

Jodie noted his use of "I" and not "We". This assured her he didn't want her to meet his mother. Adam did. It didn't go super well but at least he wanted her to meet his family. "Yeah, well…I did." She snapped as an anger grew inside of her she hadn't realized she had been holding on to, "I know how, like, important that is to you. I wouldn't wannabe thrown out."

Eric's smile faded into confusion as he sat her unevenly onto the floor. Jodie stood on one foot and shifted her weight while she slipped her foot back into her fallen heel. All week whenever she tried to walk in three inch heels she felt pain, so simply taking off her other heel was more of a pain than the brief struggle it took to replace her shoe.

Eric frowned as he watched his girlfriend walk away.

Lauren's mouth fell open, she had found a major piece of a puzzle she had yet to solve, what had caused such a rift between them before she arrived. Lauren slapped Eric's arm. "You were going to kick her out?!" She slapped his shoulder again ineffectively, "Because she couldn't help with rent?!" She growled angrily.

"I…I-it's a lot more complicated than that."

"You were going to kick her out over money!"

"No. It…I just…I thought it would motivate her. I absolutely didn't want to kick her out."

"But would you have?" She demanded with a snarl. Eric frowned. "Eric, that is not what you do to someone if you love them!"

"I do love her, but-"

"No! Last year you were in a slump and did she up and leave you?!"

"N-no, but technically-"

"No but! You know, I thought you not being romantic enough with her was the biggest issue you guys had but this? This takes the cake and you're lucky she stuck around with you this long, let alone slept with you." Lauren shook her head and brushed past her brother following Jodie.

Jodie closed the bathroom door behind her. "This'll all be over soon, girl." she whispered. 'It's the right thing to do. It's totally mean but…it's, like, the right thing. Do it for once, Jodie.' she told herself as she fixed her hair and checked her makeup in the mirror. A small knock on the bathroom door pulled her attention momentarily. "What?"

"Jodie, can I come in?"

'Don't. Be strong.' she told herself.

"I just want to see if…you wanted to go to the mall?" Jodie frowned and opened the door, immediately throwing her arms around Lauren and broke into tears. Jodie liked having a sister to share clothes, makeup, emotions, and shopping trips with and there was no doubt in her mind that when she and Eric broke up, all of that would be gone.

"It's ok Jodie. He's an idiot but he loves you. We both do."

The next Monday Jodie returned to work in her lovely car, she paused for a moment at the entrance, mentally preparing herself for Tiffany's reaction. After a moment she strode into the front lobby and greeted her friend at the front desk "Hi Jodie how was your…ohmuhgodwhatisthatareyoulikeferreal?!" Tiffany bounced up and down before hugging Jodie who then joined her in her bouncy merriment. "How did it happen?!" She gasped excitedly.

Jodie smiled, happy to have someone else to share this new development with. "We, like, went to his parents and-"

"Ohmahgod how did that go! What are they like?!"

"His dad is really nice, and quiet, his brother is…like, well…" she forced back memories of their kiss. The memory of how big his cock felt,, and her dream of the two of them together as she slept in Lauren's room was something she promised to think about later, "but his mom was so nice! Not, like, at first, but after Adam proposed we started to totally connect."

"That's great!"

Jodie nodded, "He got up in front of his family and told me how much he loved me and always would," she paused for a moment to delight in the memory, "and I said yes." She finished, staring at the ring as a small tear fell from her eye. She knew if she thought about it long enough she would burst into a giggling fit of tears. Everything felt so right. Everything felt so wrong.

"That's the best! Oh my gosh we have got to totally talk wedding plans!"

Jodie wiped the tear from her eye and nodded in agreement, "Okay but…don't tell anyone please? Not yet. I think he wants to, like, wait until after my…uh, transfer."

"Why'd you tell me then?"

Jodie thought for a moment, it was unwise to tell anyone but especially Tiffany, "Because you're my best friend." Was the only reason that came to mind.

Tiffany immediately threw her arms around Jodie once more. "You're my best friend too!"

Just before lunch Adam stood beside Jodie's desk, with a gentle and commanding hand he turned her face up to look at him as he slowly leant forward, "Mine." He growled before their lips met. With that Jodie stood and followed Adam into his office. As he wrapped her up in her arms she thought how Eric was never the one to initiate romance. Maybe he really was just going through the motions out of pity or some misguided sense of duty to an old friend. Adam had no reason to pretend to love her but he did anyway. Her and Adam had so much more in common than she and Eric. He came from a loving family, he would never understand what that absence does to a person but Adam knew all too well. Together they could help each other.

As he lifted her up only to sit her on his desk she felt a familiar bulge pressing into her thigh, "I missed this." She smiled groping his manhood through his pants

"What about me?"

"Hmm," she smirked, "Didn't cross my mind."

Adam's widened momentarily before narrowing on her like a predator, "I'll make sure you don't forget me next time." In one fluid motion he pulled her off of the desk, spun her around, and bent her over the desk and yanked down her black skirt. Without hesitation his hand collided with her cheek, both smiled with pleasure when Jodie yelped in pain.

Meanwhile, several floors down, word had spread like a virus from Tiffany to Mrs.Bridgette who was exultant at the news. From Mrs.Bridgette to another administrative assistant in the HR department by way of needing to file a report, to more assistants on break, to both Janet in her office and Lauren in the IT department.

"What?!"

"Oh, I figured you knew. You guys are roommates right?"

"We are but she didn't say…" Lauren thought back to last night and remembered how emotional she was, even shopping didn't seem to cheer her up. She slept in her room all night and tossed and turned all night…could it be possible that Adam tricked her or blackmailed her somehow and she was just too afraid to ask for her help. But she didn't have to ask.

One quick elevator ride later and Lauren stood in Janet's office. "I'm in."

In another office, Jodie retouched her makeup and Adam got dressed after some lively lovemaking. "You should stay over tonight."

Jodie capped her lipstick, "Are you sure?"

He wrapped his arms around her waist from behind, "I'd imagine you're going to move in with me at some point. So why not stay with me for a few days?" His face felt so rough against her soft smooth skin. His scent was intoxicating.

"I thought, like, you'd be totally sick of me after last week."

"I will never be sick of you, Jodie." Gently he kissed her cheek and she felt herself surrender to him in a much different way than she had earlier."Yes, Sir."

Adam smiled and broke his hold on Jodie before reaching into his coat pocket and taking out a key. "You can let yourself in."

"How will you get in?"

Adam smiled, "I have my key. This one is yours." Jodie smiled and wrapped her arms around his neck and gave him a kiss. Adam hugged her much smaller frame. "Hey…" he chuckled to hide his confusion, "I did ask you to marry me, you know?"

Jodie nodded into his shoulder, "I love you."

Adam smiled not knowing what made her as happy over a small key as she was over her ring. Jodie had said little about her family since they started dating. He knew they were not good people, which made Jodie's kindness all the more endearing to him knowing she somehow managed to stay so kind in an uncaring world. "I love you too Jordan Applegate. I always will."

"Wesker." Jodie wiped a read away from her eye as she pulled away.

He wiped the remaining tear from her cheek, "Soon."

Six hours later Adam walked briskly to his car. He couldn't wait to see Jodie again. She had gone to her apartment to pick up some clean clothes for the next couple of days. Soon she would move out of that horrid apartment and they could seriously start their lives together. Adam smiled as he placed his briefcase in the trunk, he knew he was moving much faster than he had planned but he also didn't plan to fall in love with her either. Her not so subtle hints hadn't been what pushed him towards marriage. It was actually that first morning in his old room. He had woken up earlier than her to go exercise, and as he sat in his chair putting on a pair of running shoes she had rolled over in her sleep and unconsciously reached for him and when she couldn't feel him she let out the softest and almost imperceptible whimper. He found it an adorable sight that she wanted, truly wanted, to be with him and wake up next to him every morning. And as he watched her nuzzling his pillow he realized he wanted all of those things too. Some small romantic part of him wanted something more from her than to be his girlfriend, he wanted her to be his wife. He hadn't thought of marrying anyone for years; having labeled it as childish after having his heart broken so many times but ever since he and Jodie became a couple that part of him was growing again and instead of fighting it he wanted to nurture it and be better, for Jodie.

"Mr.Wesker."

Adam turned, unsure how long he had lost himself in thought." Miss.Harrows. Miss Morrison. I apologize I was lost in thought, did you need something?"

The women looked at each other and back to Adam before Janet finally said, "We need to talk about Jordan Applegate."
