At work

As you sit at your desk, answering phone calls and emails, it bugs you that one of these players is going to get a fat payout over a nipple or something when you’re making way less than that by taking incredible pictures of seriously explicit stuff. Oh well.

That’s life. Before lunch, Annette takes off.

“Hey,” she says on her way out. “Someone’s going to come by. Her name’s Ada. Whatever she needs, just let her have it.”

“OK,” you say with a smile.

Annette breezes out.

She didn’t say it, and she’s never said it, but it’s one of those things: if she’s expecting company, you need to make sure that everything is presentable. You sigh and stand up, checking the reception area, then going into her office.
