Chapter 119 by Nevermore Nevermore

The city-state

Main execution, phase 1

Our lone sniper... or the couple of them were not idiots. They went back before the light of first dawn. Covered by darkness and a pit of snow would now take over. And hopefully stay hidden when the Asses would try to find him again, then see fresher ski-tracks all the way back to G-spot. I shouldn’t worry about his abilities, even in the snow it was unable to find him, not even with thermal imagery.

“S&D!”

“Fuck, that’s early. It’s barely in the morning.” I whispered to Ella.

“They hope to surprise him.”

“Time to dash their hopes, then.” I retorted. “S1, S&K.”

Didier was ready. In rapid succession he shot five times. Knowing him, it were five kills. He wasn’t the man to waste a bullet. Rockets, yes, but bullets, never.

“S1 retreating.”

“S&D 1,2,3,4. Nagold, 4 x 10.” Our scout at the Nagold reported.

Oh crap... here they come. They want to surround him. They must be really pissed now.

“Forty is too few, Alex...”

“I know... but it is a lot too. Look if they want to surround him, they should find nothing. They will search all the houses, it will take time.”

“Go for plan M, then.” Ella concluded.

“Yes, it is the most difficult one, but we shoved the plan into everyone’s throat. They will hold.”

“Plan Master. Plan Master. Plan Master.” Ella radioed in to all.

We all retreated. Running on our snow shoes, barely leaving traces. Retreating and... at the same time taking in new positions.

We made the new ski tracks leading only to the east center of G-spot this time. Not that many houses, but enough to keep them busy for a while, even with forty men. They surrounded the center from the forest. We saw them pass from a distance. We had prepared the village with silly tripwires that would ring a small bell. At most they would think it was indeed a couple of people, seeking for ****. The dreaded section wouldn’t bother with that. All we needed them to do was to search the village. All of them. Those left behind as lookouts could either be killed with silencers or scared to go enter the village too. It didn’t matter from then on.

“They wonder where he’s gone. They are discussing it silently. But look at them.”

“I see it Ella. Our wicked sniper has disappeared into thin air. And a lot of boot tracks to check.”

That was some running. From house to house and back, yet make it not so obvious that an entire army had crept out of their houses. Just a couple of people. And yet, no shot rang through the air. Our wicked couple must be hiding and scared shitless, taken a bite but found out it was too great to chew on.

“They are going in. Some scouts left at the forests.”

“South confirmed.”

“North confirmed.”

“West confirmed.”

“S1 ready.”

“S2 ready.”

“S3 ready.”

“S4 ready.”

“S5 ready.”

“East 1 ready.”

“East 2 ready.”

“Confirmed, all in position.” Ella said.

“First scouts, then west, then south and north, then if they retreat, east. Execute.”

The gig is up. We had surrounded them. And first their four scouts left behind were shot, then Kylie’s squad at the west started shooting. We had ammo enough. RPG’s and grenade launchers. First the attack would only come from the west, from dug foxholes. Fuck it was hard to dig through the frozen earth. We need their attention only at the west. Imagine thirty-six people shooting at a squad of five. Well, they weren’t with thirty-six anymore, Kylie’s squad had managed to kill five of them in the surprise. Soon they would...

Outflank them.

But get countered by the North squad. Surprise! Another three fell. No they had to split their fire. About fourteen at each squad. They tried to outflank the west again, but the South squad surprised them again. Another two dead. And three sides to shoot at. About nine against five. Some tried to run back east. We had positioned north and south in half a circle at the west. There was room for them to run or ski out. But they were quickly shot by the two snipers at the east corners. East wasn’t needed yet. Or wait...

“They are retreating...”

They were. All their flanks were retreating to the east, trying to get out of an encirclement. There were soldiers in there. That knew their business. But it was too soon to retreat out of the encirclement. They needed the reinforcement first. Like in Bastogne in the second world war. They paid dearly for that mistake. They were left with nineteen, before they could retreat in the small village, getting shot suddenly from the east as well.

They stopped firing. We stopped firing. We had stopped firing the moment there were no visible targets. No cover fire for us.

They were trapped. Or at least they would think we thought they were trapped. To get out of an encirclement you needed reinforcements from one side. Just like in Bastogne.

Unless they didn’t.

What will it be, Asses? Either lose forty men in one hour, or rescue them in the hopes to kill us all? You guys must be raving mad now. Lost against a bunch of women. Clearly this is a bigger army now. About twenty-five of us against your nineteen and about forty, fifty left in the city. So lose them, and get back and getting sniped all day long, but a lot worse, or get out the reinforcements...

“Reinforcements activated. Except some guards, all of them. About fifty... Nagold.”
