Chapter 2
by Spindizzy
Who am I?
I'm Callum Mcdonald
It was never my life's ambition to work as a janitor at the country club. Moping up after people who could buy and sell my ass hadn't been great for my self-esteem but I kept telling myself it was only temporary. After the summer I'd be out of here, off to bigger and better things in the big wide world. Who knows in a few years I might be coming back here as a member. Strolling in the front door with some ambitious young man cleaning up after me. It was a nice thought anyway, something to blunt the tedium of my days. Back before my life became so much more interesting.
It all began one Tuesday lunchtime as I was cleaning the women's changing rooms. And no that wasn't the interesting part. I'd been doing the job long enough that whatever slight thrill venturing into "forbidden territory" might have held had definitely faded now it was just another wet floor to mop.
I was just about done and my thoughts were already turning toward lunch. Mrs. Turner, a blonde woman in her 40s with the kind of body you only get with a combination of a personal trainer and being married to a plastic surgeon, was watching me work. She was one of our regulars and had strong opinions on male staff in the usually female spaces. Thankfully I was spared a lecture on the subject in favour of a disapproving glare and the occasional impatient tut as she waited for me to finish.
Of course, there was no real reason for her to wait for me to leave. She could easily have used one of the large combination showers and changing cubicles lining one wall. The other person present, an athletic black woman who looked to be about thirty had done exactly that and would be done showering before Mrs. Turner was done giving me the evil eye.
Wringing out the mop for the last time I prepared to leave when my phone buzzed in my pocket. Management didn't approve of staff using our phones outside of our breaks and mine should really have been in my locker but for some reason I'd kept it on me that morning and forgotten to silence it. Acting purely on reflex I pulled it out and glanced at the screen seeing a notification from an app I didn’t recognize.
"Welcome to Gemini app. 4 compatible receivers detected" it informed me "prepared to transmit."
Below that cryptic text was a large green button labeled send to all and a much smaller red button labeled dismiss. I made to tap dismiss assuming the message must be some sort of spam but at that moment I was distracted. A pair of teenage girls burst through the door giggling over some private joke just as my thumb jabbed down on the screen landing squarely on the green button.
The next thing I knew I was trying to blink away a wave of disorientation as my vision blurred and I found myself looking at...
