Tired Tim

"You look exhausted," Nancy said, poking Tim in the ribs at the end of class.

It wasn't just that Tim looked exhausted, he felt it, too. All night long the two new lovers had kept each other from sleeping. Sex, yes, but more than that. After their second round, the pair had held each other and talked into the deep of the night, sharing dreams and fears, hopes of the future, pains of the past. Very quickly they became familiar with each other, feeling safe together, while not losing the excitement of the new.

When sleep finally came to Vanessa, Tim held her from behind, enjoying the heat of her body, the rhythm of her breath. "Oh, I know," Nancy said, "She texted me after she dropped you off. Said you had a great time. Said thank-you to me for the idea!"

"Well it was a good idea," Tim agreed with his girlfriend, "Your mother is something special."

Nancy leaned in and gave Tim a quick kiss on the lips followed by a hug. She seemed genuinely happy as she rested her head on his shoulder. Then she stepped away and looked him with her big doe-eyes.

"How was Doctor Morgan this morning?" she asked with a hint of playfulness in her voice.

"I skipped," Tim said, looking at the ground, ashamed. Before his trade for grades, skipping a class wouldn't have been a big deal, but now his scholastic performance was far higher a priority for him, and skipping a class was a cardinal sin, "I didn't mean to, but we woke up late, and then I had to get ready, and my car is still out of commission, so I tried to catch the bus..."

"Shit," Nancy said, frowning, "She's going to be upset."

"What do you mean?"

"I mean, you idiot, is that her prized pupil took her on a date yesterday, and then today he didn't show up for class," she said, tapping him on the forehead, "She's going to think you're mad at her!"

Now it was Tim's turn to curse, "Shit."

"When's her office hours?" Nancy asked, "You need to go see her."

"Not until this afternoon," Tim said, "Three o'clock, I think."

"You need to go now," Nancy said, "She might be there."

"Can't she wait?" Tim asked, "I was hoping to get some studying done in the library, and..."

"Tim," his girlfriend crossed her arms in front of her chest, "Do you want this woman?"

"Of course," he said.

"Then go get her!"

It was like a switch went off in his head. He wanted her, so of course he would go get her! That was the kind of guy he was! Grabbing Nancy around her waist, Tim pulled her in for another kiss, this time with a bit more passion, then he turned and walked decisively toward his professor's office, stifling a yawn, but shrugging off his exhaustion. While his sleepiness was well earned, Tim didn't have time to be tired.
