Stay in bed instead []

"John, wake up," you hear faintly. You frown and start to see the street around you distort and the light fade. It feels like everything is getting more intangible, almost ethereal. Then again, a gentle, "John, you need to get ready."

You groan and wake up. You're still in your bed, tucked in your blanket, and see your mother in the doorway. You could swear she's at the exact same spot as earlier, with the exact same expression on her face.

Was it all a dream? It felt so real... And it's so frustrating, you were just about to start having fun!

But maybe it was not all a dream? Maybe it was some sort of tryout, like a free sample, so you could adjust to your new power? Anything, as long as you didn't just lose this amazing opportunity.

You need to test it out.

"Mom..." you grumble hesitantly, "would you rather... let me stay in bed for as long as I want and not go to school today or..." hu, you have to pick something fast "... or shave your head?"

She seems puzzled, but after a short hesitation she replies "The former obviously. Ok, you can stay here, get up when you're ready sweetie."

It actually worked? Ok, no, maybe she just thinks you may be sick or something? Though she would probably have asked... Anyway, that's not such a hard evidence, you need to try something else to make sure of it. Have her pick one of two things that she would never do? Or maybe... can your power modify her body? Yes, if it works you will instantly have a visual proof, it would be perfect.

"Hey, would you rather have brown or red hair?" Your blonde mother frowns, but you can see her long mane as well as her eyebrows suddenly turn to a dark red, from root to tip.

"I guess I would pick ginger. It's been my hair color all my life and I can't imagine myself changing it now. I quite like it this way after all."

You smile in amazement. Not only are you now a hundred percent sure that you have this strange and awesome ability, but it seems your mom's memories rearranged themselves so she now believes nothing changed. Or did it also change the past? Maybe it has something to do with the phrasing of the question. Anyway, you now have access to a new world of possibilities
