Undercover in Good Springs

Getting into Goodsprings wasn't difficult. She was a lone traveler. And more importantly--a woman.

"Welcome stranger," a citizen, who looked out of place with a shotgun said "See any bandits out there? Glad you made it here safe. Just mind your manners."

"I'll behave." she said with a disarming smile "Point me to some place where I can grab a drink." The man obliged her and pointed out the Prospector Saloon.

Madeline entered the rickety saloon and all eyes turned to her. Seeing that she wasn't a threat most eyes went back to their routine--though Madeline noticed some of the men's eyes lingered a bit longer. Men.

She strode up to the bar.

"What are you drinking stranger?" a tall brunette woman of middling age asked.

"The house special I guess." Madeline said.

"Where you coming from?" the tall woman said, adding some emphasis to the last word. They were spooked.

"Southwest of here," Madeline said cooly "Anything going on in town? Seems like people are a bit on edge." The tall woman looked Madeline over. Then as if she had decided Madeline wasn't any real threat she began to be social.

"Folks got reason to be on edge." she said "Name's Trudy. We got a group of outlaws hanging around. The Powder Gangers. Can't be too careful."

"Nice to meet you," Madeline said after taking a sip of the rotgut that Trudy poured her "I'm Madeline." A pang of disgust crossed her face as she realized she hadn't even thought of using an alias. She naturally told this woman her real name. It probably wouldn't matter. Trudy associated the disgust on her face as a sign of the rotgut.

"You get used to that stuff eventually." Trudy smiled.

Madeline continued the small talk banter and received rumors of various sorts.

Madeline came to learn a number of useful facets of information.

She learned that a caravanner had been recently taken in by the town, after his run in with Powder Gangers.

Rumor had it that Easy Pete had a stash of dynamite hidden away.

Madeline learned that there was a local merchant in town at a General Store and an old Doc Mitchel ran a medical clinic.
