Chapter 1 by DesertedSahara DesertedSahara

You woke up. Fuck, you complain. Groggy, you checked the time on the alarm. It was 10:06, far later in the day than you knew you should be getting up, even for a Saturday.

Wait... it's Saturday? You jumped straight up and double check your alarm. You're wide awake now. Fuck, you're late! Today was the day Everest Online finally was released!

You catapult out of bed. You threw on his clothes over your thin (perhaps even frail) body, barrel out of the door, and sprinted out your apartment, down the stairs, and through your front door into the city below. You threw the door open so fast, you almost hit the woman in front of him as you left his megaplex and ran through the overly cramped street to get to the shop as soon as he could. You had to get a copy of Everest Online before it sold out.

Everest Online was the first VRPG – virtual role-playing game – to come out on the market. That meant it ran on a virtual membrane machine, the newest console that you put on your head and plugged into to get a complete all-senses experience from the comfort of your own home. It engaged every sense and let you have near-complete freedom to play and act in the game as however the developer intended.

Of course, that meant these new games took a _lot _of development time. Everest itself was in full development for six years before its release, and even that was seen as impossibly quick. And the consoles cost money. A _lot _of money. You shuddered. Instead of renting your cramped megaplex apartment, you could have lived in a cosy house in the suburbs instead. But you knew deep down you were happy with your decision to buy a virtual reality console last month, and you knew Everest Online would scratch that gaming itch you havd always had since he was young.

When you eventually got in front of the GAME store to pick up his copy of Everest Online, you groaned. The queue, even this late in the day, must have been almost a hundred people long! And you were stuck behind a giant, sweaty man who must have been waiting for his own copy of Everest to escape into. Will there be any copies left?

You was relieved as he saw the queue moving forward, however, quite quickly. A customer entered the store to see a man and woman with smiles masked on their faces greet them, they showed them their digital receipts on their phone, and after inspection and a scan, gave the customer their copy of Everest Online.

Do you get your copy of Everest Online?
